About The Position

Labcorp is seeking an MLS Trainee Student Worker to join our team in Nashville, TN. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of the Labcorp 2026-2027 Medical Laboratory Science Training Program. Student Workers will learn the theory behind medical laboratory practices through a combination of didactic instruction (virtual) and clinical instruction (in-person) in various laboratory settings including hospital and non-hospital labs. The program supports professional development and career exploration through workshops, modules, leadership speakers, employee resource groups, and panel discussions. Upon completion, students will be prepared for diverse responsibilities in analysis, clinical decision-making, regulatory compliance, education, and quality assurance. The Labcorp School of Medical Laboratory Science is currently seeking NAACLS approval, and students will be eligible to take a national certification examination upon full NAACLS program accreditation approval. The Diagnostic Core Laboratories support routine and specialty diagnostic testing. The Central Laboratories generate significant clinical trial data across various testing activities. Hospital Laboratories perform complex tests to detect, diagnose, and treat diseases. The program aims to improve health and lives globally.

Requirements

Must be accepted into the Labcorp School of Medical Laboratory Science
Completion of all college/university requirements for graduation with a baccalaureate
Individuals with grade point averages of between 2.50-2.75 may apply for admission and will be considered on an individual basis.
MLS Trainee Student Workers agree to work paid hours outside of the clinical externship.
Paid work hours are strictly voluntary, are not to exceed 20 hours per week unless approved by the Program Director and must be completed outside of clinical rotation hours.

Science/math and overall cumulative grade point average of 2.75 on a 4.0 scale.

Responsibilities

Attend didactic lectures and successfully complete all coursework and related materials in Clinical Chemistry, Hematology, Urinalysis & Body Fluids, Immunohematology, Immunology & Molecular Methods, Clinical Microbiology, and Laboratory Operations Management and Education.
Successfully complete clinical rotations and related assignments in Phlebotomy, Clinical Chemistry, Hematology, Urinalysis & Body Fluids, Immunohematology, Immunology & Molecular Methods, and Clinical Microbiology.
Demonstrate competency of course materials by obtaining at least a 70% in each course examination and an overall 76% or greater overall course grade.
Complete all assigned supplemental assignments and attend all study sessions in preparation for the national certification examination.
Engage in professional development workshops and modules to enhance business acumen and professional presence.
Assist with and perform duties related to the function of testing, recording of data, and releasing of results under the supervision of a qualified Medical Laboratory Scientist during paid work hours.
Performs assigned clinical laboratory testing accurately and in a timely manner according to established procedures working under the technical oversight of a qualified Medical Laboratory Scientist.
Performs accurate and timely result entry (through both Auto-verification and manual entry) under the direct supervision of a qualified Medical Laboratory Scientist.
Ensures data entered manually (QC, patient data, etc) is reviewed by a qualified Medical Laboratory Scientist (with review documented) prior to the release of results.
Performs preventative maintenance on equipment, documents PM appropriately, makes minor repairs under the direct supervision of a qualified Medical Laboratory Scientist and immediately contacts appropriate personnel for problems requiring more complex repairs.
Documents all activities as necessary including preventative maintenance logs, instrument function checks, troubleshooting, and quality control to ensure regulatory compliance.
Pipettes samples and reagents using calibrated and approved automatic syringes, dispensers, and other approved devices.
Records dates of receipt, in use, and expiration for all reagents, kits, controls, and standards used for assigned assays.
Troubleshoots simple assay problems and provides suggestions to management as warranted.
Adheres to the standard operating procedures and safety requirements of Labcorp, CLIA, CAP, ICH GCP, and other regulatory bodies.
Other duties as assigned within the scope of the student trainee role.
