About The Position

The MLL StudyPAL (Study Partner for Acquiring Language) provides supplemental language support to students classified as Multilingual Learners and to students who have recently exited language programming and are being monitored for progress. The role works with students individually, in small groups, or in classroom settings to develop English content vocabulary, practice applying English reading and writing skills and strategies, and construct meaning from content. The MLL StudyPAL reports to the classroom teacher and the Director of Multilingual Learners.

Requirements

• At least two years of post-secondary education, with a majority of coursework in English, Psychology, or a related field.
• Experience working with Multilingual Learner adolescents or young adults and/or students of diverse backgrounds.

Nice To Haves

• A bachelor’s degree is preferred.
• Bilingual Spanish/English or Portuguese/English is preferred.
• Working knowledge of additional languages is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Participate in professional development with the Director of Multilingual Learners.
• Collaborate with the classroom teacher to design a program that supports Multilingual Learners’ English acquisition, particularly reading and writing skills and strategies, and content knowledge acquisition through translation and tutoring in the student’s first language when feasible.
• Determine a service schedule with classroom teachers.
• Deliver services according to the schedule determined.
