ML Innovation for Products, PhD Research Intern

Meta•Sunnyvale, CA
•$7,650 - $12,667

About The Position

The ML Innovation for Products (MLIP) team is an applied machine learning and research team within Meta’s Ranking & Foundational AI organization. The team develops state-of-the-art machine learning for retrieval, ranking, and auctions across Meta’s advertising systems, taking ideas from research and prototypes through to production-scale deployment. Its work supports recommendation systems serving users across Facebook, Instagram, and other Meta products. The intern may contribute to research and applications spanning memory-based recommendation models; billion-node graph learning; multimodal and large language model fusion with graph signals; agentic AI systems for planning, orchestration, memory, and execution; and reinforcement-learning policies for optimizing advertising retrieval decisions. The team works closely with researchers, engineers, and product groups, and its research is often published at major machine learning and recommender-systems conferences. The team comprises 15 machine learning engineers and research scientists across Sunnyvale and the Bay Area. It supports collaboration and learning through technical deep dives, AI best-practice workshops, and an onboarding buddy system.
