About The Position

An effective Mixer holds safety as a value. Demonstrates safe work practices in all they do and has no hesitation notifying anyone of an unsafe situation. The mixer will be responsible for preparing and mixing bulk molding compound (BMC) materials to precise specifications, ensuring high-quality output for production. This role requires adherence to safety standards, knowledge of raw materials, and mechanical equipment operation.

  • Ability to follow detailed instructions, technical specifications, and safety guidelines
  • Good general ability with use of computer touch screens and written documents.
  • Basic math skills, ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • The associate is frequently required to: Stand, walk, stoop, kneel, climb, use hands to feel or handle objects, tools, or controls. Reach and lift with hands and arms; talk, see and hear.
  • Ability to step onto and off the mixer platform numerous times during the shift.
  • Must be able to pass Pulmonary Function Test for respirator use and utilize several times during the shift as needed when mixing or removing material.
  • Capable of working in a production area, must be able to work in a tight, close environment when needed.
  • Capable of lifting and moving heavy materials (up to 50 pounds) as required.
  • Required to perform repetitive tasks.
  • The associate may need to be available for extended shift hours if needed and assist in emergency situations.

  • Prefers three (3) years’ experience or combination of education and experience, preferably in a technical field or quality field.
  • Capable of growing knowledge and demonstrating competence in your job.
  • Familiarity with quality assurance standards and basic laboratory testing procedures.
  • Understanding of BMC materials, raw material properties, and their role in the formulation process.

Responsibilities

  • Weigh and measure raw materials such as polyester resin, glass fibers, fillers, and additives according to specified formulas.
  • Ensure all raw materials are stored and handled properly to maintain quality.
  • Communicate with the press room to determine production requirements for mixing schedule.
  • Operate and maintain mixing machine (e.g., manual mixer, mixer machine) to combine materials into a homogeneous mixture.
  • Monitor the mixing process to ensure proper consistency, viscosity, and quality standards are met.
  • Complete quality checks as required.
  • Make adjustments to formulations as needed based on batch results or specifications.
  • Contact supervisor for formulation issues.
  • Conduct visual and physical inspections of mixed materials for defects of inconsistencies.
  • Perform basic laboratory tests to verify material properties, such as density, cure time, and texture.
  • 1st Shift Mixer will assist with the unloading of resin trucks.
  • Will be the back up quality lab tester in the absence of Quality Technician 3 (lab tester).
  • Clean, inspect, and maintain mixing equipment to ensure continuous operation.
  • Perform Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) duties, as assigned. Those duties are best described as those tasks required to clean, inspect, and lubricate the equipment and work area.
  • Maintain accurate records of material batches, formulations, and production output.
  • Report deviations from production plans and suggest corrective actions.
  • Maintains proper inventory rotation using the first-in/first-out inventory method.
  • Follow all workplace safety guidelines, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Proper fit and wearing of a respirator required. To maintain a seal, facial hair needs to be removed.
  • Ensure safe handling of chemicals and raw materials in accordance with safety data sheets (SDS).
  • Obtain and maintain a forklift license for a stand up and sit down fork truck.
