About The Position

Performs a variety of administrative and professional duties to manage an adult misdemeanor caseload, including community service and/or restitution programs. This role involves supervising and managing adult defendants placed on supervised probation for misdemeanor offenses, performing case management, and preparing documentation for court recommendations. Officers handle cases from magistrate and occasionally district courts, monitor release/bail conditions, and manage community service and restitution programs by coordinating projects with various community entities. The principal duties are performed in a general office environment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent general education development (GED) certification.
  • Experience working one-on-one with individuals is preferred.
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the necessary knowledge and abilities.
  • Valid Idaho Driver’s License.
  • Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing to communicate effectively.
  • Sufficient vision to prepare, process, and maintain documents and monitor client compliance.
  • Sufficient manual dexterity to operate computer and office equipment.
  • Sufficient personal mobility and physical reflexes to work in an office setting and travel to various sites.
  • Ability to meet minimum Idaho Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) standards for probation officers.
  • Ability to complete all required examinations, including polygraph and psychological evaluation upon conditional offer.
  • Ability to become POST certified in adult misdemeanor probation disciplines within one year of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Meets with assigned defendants to complete in-take forms, explain probation terms, and schedule ordered activities.
  • Instructs defendants on probation obligations, regulations, and practices.
  • Administers LSI-R to determine risk level and provides case management.
  • Supervises and monitors compliance with all terms of probation.
  • Documents all information from regular meetings with defendants.
  • Enforces court orders through warnings, discretionary time, and probation violation proceedings.
  • Prepares monthly reports showing case activity.
  • Provides defendants with information on resources for probation completion.
  • Serves on call 24/7 for urgent client issues and corresponds with treatment providers and stakeholders.
  • Assists probationers with job application completions.
  • Maintains in-house drug and alcohol testing and reporting program.
  • Prepares and presents affidavits and exhibits in probation violation cases and appears in court.
  • Conducts records checks for additional offenses and inputs data into Odyssey.
  • Maintains tracks, files, and correspondence.
  • Conducts weekly home visits as needed.
  • Schedules and monitors GPS, electronic monitor, and SCRAM hook-ups.
  • Prepares written recommendations to court and prosecution for probation extension or termination.
  • Works closely with jail staff to coordinate Work Release, Sherriff’s Inmate Labor Detail, and discretionary time.
  • Prepares detailed restitution reports for the court and parties, with occasional testimony.
  • Contacts victims, insurance companies, and performs research regarding restitution.
  • Plans and coordinates community service projects and monitors compliance.
  • Responds to citizen questions and comments.
  • Performs all work duties in accordance with County and agency policies, procedures, and safety practices.
  • May elect to be armed with a firearm upon POST certification.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
