About The Position

The Houston Astros are seeking an individual to serve as a Minor League Athletic Trainer at our Dominican Republic Complex. This position will require daily interaction with field staff, team physicians, the Minor League Medical Coordinator, the Assistant Minor League Medical Coordinator, as well as other staff and front office members in addition to the daily player care responsibilities. Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, pre-season camps, coverage of the Dominican Summer League season, and post-season camps. Additional off-season coverage and off-season player monitoring will be required as needed.

Requirements

  • NATA-BOC Certified and in good standing.
  • Eligible for FL and TX state licensure.
  • CPR/AED certification required.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Athletic Training or related field.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous baseball experience preferred, but not required.
  • Bilingual (Spanish) is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • The prevention and care of athletic injuries and illnesses
  • Coordinating and facilitating physician appointments and imaging
  • Daily game and work out coverage including pre/post treatments and field set up
  • Thorough documentation of all injuries/illnesses including daily notes, physician notes, and other required documentation and reporting. Use of the MLB EMR system will be necessary.
  • Ability to demonstrate professionalism in high stress situations
  • Administrative duties including: Ordering Daily Training Room Supplies, Assisting with Capital Equipment Planning/Ordering, Daily training room cleaning duties, Travel and Logistics duties, Travel Trunk inventory/packing for road trips, Hydrotherapy Room Maintenance, Daily communication with First Responder staff to ensure emergency equipment, medical cart & supplies are prepared and safely secured.
  • Will include significant travel during the season.
  • High level of collaboration with colleagues from Player Care & Performance staff (S&C, Nutrition, Mental Health & Performance) and other departments (e.g., Player Development)
  • Adhere to the organization’s policies and procedures as outlined in the Astros Handbook, PC&P Handbook, Medical Department Handbook, and direct communication from the Director of Player Care and Performance.
  • Other duties assigned by the Director of Player Care and Performance.
