About The Position

The Minomode-Zewin Nundge-Gehwin Assistant supports the Indigenous Food Sovereignty Coordinator and Dietitian in the delivery of day-to-day activities related to SOAHAC’s food insecurity programming. This role helps ensure the effective coordination and operation of program activities that support access to healthy food, community wellness, and culturally grounded food systems work. The Assistant will provide hands-on support for program planning and implementation, farm box and food hub distribution, community meals, community garden and greenhouse activities, and other related food distribution initiatives. This position is based at SOAHAC’s London site and does not require travel. The position reports to the Integrated Care Manager, London site.

Requirements

  • Diploma or certificate in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience supporting community-based programs, food programs, health promotion, or related initiatives
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage routine program tasks
  • Ability to perform physical duties associated with food program support, including lifting, carrying, set-up, and distribution activities
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work respectfully and effectively with Indigenous individuals, families, and communities
  • A satisfactory police check will be required as a condition of employment
  • Up-to-date immunizations in compliance with SOAHAC requirements

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of Indigenous food sovereignty, community wellness, and culturally grounded approaches is an asset
  • Experience supporting community meals, gardens, food distribution, or similar programming is an asset
  • Knowledge of growing, cooking traditional indigenous foods would be an asset

Responsibilities

  • Support the Indigenous Food Sovereignty Coordinator and Dietitian in carrying out day-to-day program activities
  • Assist with planning, preparing, organizing, and implementing food insecurity program initiatives
  • Help maintain program supplies, materials, and food distribution logistics
  • Support general administrative and operational tasks related to the program
  • Assist with farm box and food hub distribution activities
  • Support the coordination and delivery of community meals
  • Assist with ordering, preparation, and distribution of program-related food items and bags
  • Support community garden and greenhouse activities, as required
  • Provide welcoming, respectful, and culturally safe support to community members participating in programming
  • Assist with set-up, take-down, and organization for program activities and events
  • Help ensure program spaces are clean, organized, and ready for use
  • Work collaboratively with team members to support smooth and responsive service delivery
  • Assist with basic recordkeeping, inventory tracking, and program documentation as needed
  • Communicate effectively with team members regarding schedules, supplies, and program needs
  • Participate in team meetings and other organizational activities as required
