About The Position

The Ministry & Events Internship provides a University of Pikeville student with supervised experience in planning, logistics, coordination, and organization within a church and nonprofit setting. The intern assists staff with weekly ministry gatherings, special events, and trips serving children, middle and high school students, and college-age young adults. Reporting to Pastor Keenan Darby and working under the guidance of church staff, the intern learns how to move an activity from an initial idea through preparation, execution, and evaluation. The role develops practical skills in event planning, hospitality, administration, and teamwork while supporting the church’s mission of making disciples and serving families. The internship is grant-funded, pays $10.50 per hour, and requires at least 80 hours during the semester. The student must concurrently enroll in CVL 401: Integrated Internship Experience and successfully complete the course, using the two-credit-hour option. The preferred schedule includes one hour Sunday morning, 1½ hours Wednesday night, and 2½ hours per week in the office, arranged around the intern’s schedule during the 9 a.m.–3 p.m. window. The position is located at First Baptist Church of Pikeville, 126 4th Street, Pikeville, Kentucky 41501. By the end of the internship, the student should be able to develop an event plan, organize logistics and schedules, communicate with participants and volunteers, track basic expenses, and evaluate an event’s effectiveness. Experience gained may apply to ministry, event coordination, hospitality, and nonprofit operations.
