About The Position

Elk Valley Resources (EVR) is seeking a Mining Engineering Co-op student to join their team in January 2027 for an 8 or 12-month term. This co-op position offers hands-on experience in a real-world mining environment, applying academic knowledge to daily operations. The role involves participating in health and safety programs, collaborating on mine planning and design, contributing to drilling and blasting activities, monitoring operating areas, assisting with permit compliance, performing economic evaluations, and contributing innovative ideas. EVR is committed to responsible resource development, environmental performance, and building strong community partnerships. The company is part of the Glencore Group and operates four steelmaking coal mines in British Columbia, employing over 5,000 people.

Requirements

  • Working towards an Undergraduate degree in Mining/Mineral Resource Engineering
  • A valid Class 5 Driver's License or extra-provincial equivalent, without learner's restrictions
  • Able to operate vehicles at our operations, in various weather conditions and terrain
  • Motivated self-starters with the ability to manage several projects simultaneously
  • Comfortable working in a dynamic industrial work environment with a range of engineering, technical and operational personnel
  • Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills with a capability to communicate complex ideas to all levels
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access)

Responsibilities

  • Participate in and adhere to health and safety programs and policies
  • Collaborate with engineering and operations for the development of daily, weekly and monthly mine operations plans
  • Work in wide ranges of mine planning and design, including pit and dump design, traditionally operated and autonomous fleets, production scheduling, and optimization
  • Contribute to drilling, blasting and surveying activities and provide technical services to mine production and other mine site departments
  • Monitor and perform analyses of operating areas, work with geotechnical evaluations of mine plans and operating procedures
  • Assist with the development, tracking, and reporting of compliance of mine permits
  • Perform economic evaluations, productivity analyses, and assist with capital expenditure documentation
  • Create and evaluate innovative ideas and technologies to help improve the way we do business
