About The Position

As our underground miner, you will be performing all aspects of mechanized underground hard-rock mining to keep our production going and our profitability up. Every day you will work in a mine on a remote island about 18 miles outside of Juneau, Alaska. You’ll start every job with safety first by inspecting your workplace, your equipment, and then operate and maintain various types of equipment and tools for production mining. To thrive in this role, you must be able to follow basic survey directions, including maps, prints, grade lines, etc; interfaces and interprets data with engineers and geologists. We’re on a remote island, you must know how to work independently. The Greens Creek Mine, located on Admiralty Island 18 miles south of Juneau, is an underground polymetallic mine operating since 1989, employing over 500 people. The mine is owned and operated by Hecla Mining Company, headquartered in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Established in 1891, Hecla has a rich history as a distinguished and respected precious metals producer. Requirements

  • Current authorization to work in the United States.
  • Ability to follow basic survey directions, including maps, prints, grade lines.
  • Ability to interface and interpret data with engineers and geologists.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to pass a background screening for ATF (Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms).

Responsibilities

  • Performing all aspects of mechanized underground hard-rock mining.
  • Inspecting workplace and equipment before starting work.
  • Operating and maintaining various types of equipment and tools for production mining.
  • Following basic survey directions, including maps, prints, grade lines.
  • Interfacing and interpreting data with engineers and geologists.
  • Working independently on a remote island.
  • Maintaining, and troubleshooting electrohydraulic jumbos, bolters, UG haul trucks, and other underground equipment.
  • Providing support to complete underground development and production mining.
  • Performing workplace inspections assigned each morning.
  • Prioritizing work.
  • Working on a 20 day on, 10 day off schedule.
