About The Position

Magris Talc is one of the world’s leading talc producers, and our Penhorwood site is located in Northern Ontario, between Foleyet and Timmins, as part of our Canadian operations. We are seeking a Mine Supervisor to support operations at our Penhorwood site. This role is critical in ensuring mining activities are executed safely, efficiently, and in alignment with production and quality targets. Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Mine Supervisor oversees the coordination between internal teams, contractors, and technical services to ensure mining plans are translated into effective field execution. The role holds accountability for schedule adherence, cost control, and operational performance.

Requirements

  • 4–6+ years of experience in mining or construction operations
  • Strong understanding of open pit mining and contractor-based operations
  • Previous supervisory or leadership experience
  • Strong knowledge of safety and operational best practices
  • Strong organizational and planning skills
  • Solid analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines
  • Confident in using MS Office tools (Excel, Project, Word)
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently
  • Strong leadership and team-building capabilities
  • Safety-focused leader with a strong sense of accountability

Responsibilities

  • Ensure all mining activities comply with site safety standards, regulations, and company policies
  • Support safety programs, reporting, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Promote safe work practices and hold contractors accountable for safety performance
  • Support risk assessments and monitoring programs related to open pit operations
  • Assist the engineering team in short-term mining schedules (0–12 months) aligned with mine plans
  • Monitor contractor performance against production targets and key metrics
  • Translate mining plans and designs into executable field activities
  • Coordinate drilling, blasting, excavation, and crushing activities
  • Act as the primary interface between site operations and contractors
  • Lead planning meetings and performance reviews
  • Prepare reports, status updates, and performance tracking documentation
  • Track mining costs against budgets and forecasts
  • Review contractor performance, productivity, and invoicing
  • Analyze variances and recommend corrective actions
  • Support budgeting and forecasting processes for mining activities
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams (Engineering, Environment, Operations)
  • Build strong working relationships with contractors, stakeholders, and regulators
  • Contribute to continuous improvement and operational excellence initiatives
  • Support HR, HSEQ, and site compliance requirements as needed
