Requirements

  • Five years of underground mining experience, including one year of experience as a mine rescue instructor within the past five years; or Five years of underground mining experience, including two years of experience as a member of a mine rescue team.
  • Possession of a valid Pennsylvania driver's license.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct classroom and underground training on mine rescue principles for anthracite miners
  • Deliver basic first aid and CPR courses through lecture and hands-on practice
  • Provide annual refresher training for underground and surface miners on key safety and health topics
  • Repair and calibrate rescue equipment including breathing apparatus, gas detectors, and communication devices
  • Remain on call to deploy rescue vehicles and provide technical help during mine emergencies
  • Maintain detailed records for training, equipment testing, and regulatory notifications
