About The Position

This position involves performing preventative care maintenance duties for the Shoals, IN underground mine. The role requires diagnosing, estimating, and completing repairs on both mobile and fixed equipment, including pumps, conveyors, and crushers. Mechanics will examine parts for damage or wear, troubleshoot mechanical problems on heavy equipment, and interpret schematics and manuals. Repairs must be made in a timely fashion to minimize equipment downtime. All work must be performed safely and documented accurately through work orders. The role also includes conducting service on equipment according to manufacturer specifications, reporting equipment conditions, maintaining good housekeeping, and safely operating equipment within shop areas. A strong understanding of safety policies and procedures, mobile equipment systems (braking, steering, suspension, air, engine controls), failure analysis, and necessary tools is essential. Basic welding and cutting skills, along with competency in paperwork and using a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS), are also required.

Requirements

Three (3) or more years of experience maintaining heavy equipment in a mining, construction or farming environment required.
Experience maintaining diesel equipment required.
Experience maintaining electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems on mobile equipment required.
Ability to read and understand schematics of mobile equipment required.
Strong problem-solving skills required.
Proven excellent safety and attendance record required.
Proven ability to work effectively in a team environment required.

Nice To Haves

Trade school or college degree or certificate in heavy-duty mechanics preferred.

Responsibilities

Diagnose, estimate, and complete repairs on mobile equipment and fixed equipment.
Repair, rebuild, and maintain various equipment such as pumps, conveyors, and crushers.
Examine parts and components for damage or excessive wear using micrometers and gauges.
Accurately diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical problems on heavy equipment to detect faults and malfunctions.
Accurately interpret information from schematics, maintenance and parts manuals, and OEM standards and specifications.
Make necessary repairs (overhauls, maintenance, service, or reconditioning) in a timely fashion to get the job done and reduce equipment downtime.
Perform all assigned work in a safe, well-managed manner and assure that work area is safe for mechanics and other employees to work.
Keep in active communication with the Maintenance Supervisor and other crews to coordinate work and provide updates on progress.
Test repaired equipment for proper performance prior to releasing for return to active duty.
Return well-documented and accurately completed work orders in a timely manner.
Conduct service on all assigned equipment in accordance with original manufacturer specifications and standards in a safe, efficient, and environmentally secure manner.
Report equipment condition to maintenance supervisor for potential issues.
Maintain good housekeeping standards with focus on the care and custody of materials.
Safely operate and park equipment within the shop areas.
Demonstrate strong understanding of safety policies and procedures relating to mine equipment and maintenance practices (e.g., guarding, blocking, lock-out, tag-out, etc.).
Demonstrate strong knowledge of mobile equipment braking systems, steering systems, suspension systems, compressed air systems, engine tune-up requirements, electronic engine controls.
Demonstrate proven understanding of failure and wear analysis.
Demonstrate working knowledge of all tools and equipment necessary to work in the Mobile Maintenance Department.
Perform basic welding and cutting.
Complete detailed paperwork (i.e., work orders).
Use a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).
