About The Position

The Millwright Mechanic - Production is responsible for a variety of advanced level maintenance and repair of equipment and facilities. This position serves as a resource to other mechanics and crafts for resolutions to diverse and complex mechanical problems. The role involves organizing, planning, and executing projects to maximize efficiency, creating and maintaining Standard Operating Procedures, and troubleshooting complex machinery, piping, and equipment problems. The position also requires developing technical specifications, tracking work order information, creating reports, and entering data into a computerized maintenance management system. Additionally, the role involves developing and conducting training classes, performing advanced diagnostic tests, repairing plant machinery, and dismantling, constructing, and assembling industrial components. Participation in planning efforts, coordination with other groups, and mentoring other employees are also key aspects of this role. The Millwright Mechanic will also furnish mechanical recommendations for new parts and equipment, promote a safe working environment, and interpret various technical documents. The ability to operate heavy equipment and evaluate construction drawings is also necessary. This position works under limited supervision and may act as a team leader or on behalf of the Superintendent on administrative or management issues, applying mastery of mechanical maintenance and industrial safety principles.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or a General Education Development (GED) Certificate.
  • Six years’ experience performing repairs, maintenance and installation of pumps, chlorination systems and other industrial equipment.
  • Ability to report to work on time, maintain a good attendance record, and work all designated work schedules.
  • Valid Texas Class “A” Commercial Driver’s License with Tanker and Hazardous Material endorsement or the ability to obtain the Tanker and Hazardous Material endorsement within ninety (90) calendar days.
  • TCEQ Class "D" Water Operator License within 6 months and Class "C" Groundwater Treatment Operator License within 12 months of hire.
  • Subject to climbing up to 200 feet in height.
  • Lifting up to 50 pounds occasionally and pushing/pulling a maximum force of 105 pounds.
  • Subject to standing, sitting, walking, climbing, bending, crawling, squatting, kneeling and working in cramped and strained positions for extended periods of time to perform job scope.
  • Required to comply with requirements as specified in applicable regulations for personal protective equipment, including clearance for use of respiratory protection and other associated equipment.
  • If part of the emergency action team, must be able to complete the requirements as specified in applicable regulations for Hazardous Materials Emergency Response, including clearance for use of respiratory protection and other associated protective equipment.
  • Required to take a lead role in emergency action team during chemical release incidents and/or drills.

  • TCEQ Class “B” Groundwater Treatment Operator License.
  • Skill and mastery of materials, tools, and equipment commonly used in mechanical maintenance or repair of industrial facilities.

  • Ability to complete required SAWS coordinated training after hire on Confined space, HAZMAT Awareness, Lock Out Tag Out, Supervising for Safety, Fit Testing, Electrical Safety, and other certifications as required.
  • Skill in demonstrating advanced knowledge of other maintenance crafts.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external customers, contractors, governmental agencies and the public.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.

Responsibilities

  • Organizes, plans, and executes projects to maximize efficiency.
  • Creates and maintains Standard Operating Procedures for machinery and equipment.
  • Troubleshoots, diagnoses and resolves variable and highly complex non-routine water or wastewater facility machinery, piping and equipment problems.
  • Develops and submits technical specifications for repair parts and equipment.
  • Tracks and records information required in work order documents.
  • Creates reports with and enters data into the computerized maintenance management system and uses Microsoft Office.
  • Develops and conducts hands-on training classes as needed for various procedures, techniques, tools, materials and equipment.
  • Performs advanced level diagnostic tests to resolve routine to complex problems.
  • Repairs plant machinery and equipment, using hoists, jacks, welding equipment, ladders, confined space equipment, PPE, hand tools, squares, rules, micrometers, and other tools.
  • Dismantles, constructs and assembles various components of industrial facilities, machinery or equipment.
  • Participates in planning efforts such as safety committees, work planning groups, and special project teams.
  • Coordinates with other organizational groups, crafts, and operational staff.
  • Trains and mentors other employees.
  • Leads, evaluates, and inspects the work of other mechanical teams.
  • Furnishes mechanical recommendation when ordering new parts, machinery and equipment.
  • Promotes and practices a safe working environment.
  • Reads, interprets and explains contents of O & M manuals, as-built drawings, block maps, schematics, and construction plans.
  • Performs work in accordance with TCEQ, OSHA, and other applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to operate a forklift, powered vertical lifting equipment, utility truck, crane, combination unit, water tanker, or other heavy equipment.
  • Evaluates construction drawings and makes recommendations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Performs confined space entries in hazardous environments.
  • Operates company vehicle on a daily basis.

Benefits

  • Starting hourly rate: $38.00
  • Rate of pay depends on qualifications.
