The primary function of this role is to inspect, repair, replace, install, adjust, and maintain all mechanical equipment, including hydraulic equipment, in a producing unit or assigned area. Applicants must complete required training under the Gerdau Business System (GBS), with annual hazardous waste and specific equipment operation training as needed.

Requirements

  • Applicant/incumbent must complete or have completed the required training described for new or existing employees for this position under the GBS (Gerdau Business System).
  • Hazardous waste training and specific equipment operation training (if needed) will be covered annually.
  • All external applicants must be legally eligible to immediately work in the country of hire without current or future sponsorship.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect mill equipment for defects, such as misalignment, wear, insufficient lubrication, and hydraulic systems.
  • Determine the best way of making repairs to minimize interruption of production.
  • Advise when immediate shutdown of equipment is necessary to minimize damage or when temporarily continued operation will have no harmful effect.
  • Dismantle, clean, repair, replace, install, maintain, assemble, and lubricate mechanical and hydraulic equipment.
  • Adjust equipment for proper operating gears, bearings, and shafts involving the application of press, sliding, and running fits.
  • Operate simple machine tools, such as drill press, pipe-threading machine, and power saw.
  • Babbitt and scrape bearings as required.
  • Erect scaffolds and perform all necessary rigging.
  • Perform all mechanical repairs on cranes and mobile equipment.
  • Lay out, install, maintain, and repair all types of pipe lines, fittings, fixtures, and pressure systems.
  • Repair leaks in hydraulic systems and replace sections of pipe that have sprung leaks.
  • Remove and install complete operating components such as cylinders, oil motors, four-way valves, check valves, etc., and make necessary repairs to them.
  • Change, set up, and adjust equipment as required by current operating conditions.
  • Work with repair crews as directed and/or required.
  • Complete reports and forms as directed.
  • Exercise all required safety precautions and maintain a clean work area.
  • Operate mobile equipment as required.
  • Operate E.O.T. crane as required for maintenance purposes.
  • Manage hazardous waste.
