About The Position

Installs and aligns machinery and equipment according to precise requirements of drawings and specifications. This role is for construction sites within operating plants, requiring exposure to outdoor weather conditions, loud noise, working near moving mechanical parts, electrical energy, construction equipment, vibration, fumes, chemicals, and airborne particles. The position involves heavy work, with frequent to constant physical demands.

Requirements

  • Minimum of four (4) years industry related experience with a minimum of one (1) year as a Millwright in refinery, chemical, petrochemical, or similar industrial plant construction or maintenance.
  • Must be able to perform work within precise limits or standards of accuracy.
  • Must be able to make decisions based on measured criteria.
  • Must be able to read and understand drawings and specifications.
  • Must be able to visualize objects in three dimensions from flat drawings.
  • Must be able to read, understand, and communicate safety instructions, signs and labels.
  • Must be able to follow and communicate instructions, both verbally and written.
  • Must pass a craft-specific test.
  • Ability to effectively verbally communicate directions from craft supervisors and respond to questions from clients, managers and fellow workers.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.
  • Must work easily and skillfully with hands.
  • Must lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Must see well (either normally or with correction).
  • Must hear well (either naturally or with correction) in order to recognize safety alarms and signals and the various sounds of danger associated with construction or maintenance projects.
  • Must be able to climb and maintain balance on high ladders and scaffolds.
  • Must be able to stand, stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl.
  • Must be able to maneuver in tight working quarters.
  • Must be able to work outdoors in extreme weather conditions associated with refinery, chemical or petrochemical facilities.
  • Must be medically cleared for respirator usage.
  • Must be able to wear properly fitting respirators.
  • Must constantly wear fall protection equipment, about 5 lbs., when leaving the ground to work in any area.
  • A person’s weight and tools/equipment including clothing must comply with manufacturer’s specifications and/or restrictions related to use of ladders and/or fall protection equipment.
  • Must be able to climb various heights.

Responsibilities

  • Reads blueprints and schematic drawings to determine work procedures.
  • Dismantles machines using hammers, wrenches, crowbars and other hand tools.
  • Moves machinery and equipment using hoists, dollies, rollers and trucks.
  • Assembles and installs equipment, such as shafting, conveyors and monorails using hand tools and power tools.
  • Constructs foundations for machines using hand tools and building materials, such as wood, cement and steel.
  • Aligns machines and equipment using hoists, jacks, hand tools, squares, rules, micrometers and plumb bobs.
  • Assembles machines and bolts, welds, rivets or otherwise fastens them to foundation or other structures using hand tools and power tools.
  • May operate engine lathe to grind, file, and turn machine parts to dimensional specifications.
  • May repair and lubricate machines and equipment.
