About The Position

PGS Worldwide is seeking Milling Machine Machinists in Palmdale, California for one-year onsite contract-to-hire roles supporting a leading aerospace & defense company. These positions will independently set up and operate precision milling machines to manufacture complex metal parts, tooling, and mechanical components to exacting engineering tolerances.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 1+ year of experience in machining or a manufacturing machine-shop environment.
  • Experience setting up and operating horizontal, vertical, plain, and/or universal milling machines.
  • Ability to independently perform machine setups and determine machining sequences.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and engineering specifications.
  • Experience selecting, mounting, and aligning specialized machine attachments and tooling.
  • Ability to determine and adjust machining speeds, feeds, and depth of cut.
  • Experience using machinist hand tools and precision measuring instruments.
  • Ability to perform standard shop calculations involving dimensions, tooling, feeds, and speeds.
  • Ability to measure, mark, and scribe dimensions and reference points for machining.
  • Ability to manufacture components to close tolerances.
  • Formal machining apprenticeship, equivalent technical training, or comparable hands-on experience.
  • U.S. citizenship required.

Nice To Haves

  • 2+ years of machining or machine-shop experience.
  • Experience performing complex milling operations involving: Compound angles and contours, Compound angular holes, Helical and spiral milling, Serrating, Gear, spline, and keyway cutting.
  • Experience using improvised or specialized machine tooling.
  • Experience monitoring and verifying quality using statistical process control or similar procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate precision milling machines.
  • Plan machining sequences and determine the number of cuts and setup methods required.
  • Select, install, and align specialized tooling and machine attachments.
  • Set and adjust machine speeds, feeds, cutting depths, and related machining parameters.
  • Perform complex milling operations to exacting tolerances.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, sketches, and technical specifications.
  • Measure, mark, and lay out stock for machining.
  • Use machinist hand tools and precision measuring instruments.
  • Perform standard shop calculations supporting machining operations.
  • Inspect completed parts and verify dimensional conformance.
  • Monitor product quality throughout the machining process.
  • Follow applicable safety, manufacturing, and quality procedures.
