About The Position

The Mill Operator is responsible for setting up and operating milling machines to mill external surfaces of metal tools. This role involves positioning and securing product, feeding product to the cutter, and performing minor maintenance on the mill. The operator will also be responsible for loading and unloading tools, completing routing sheets, and inputting data.

Requirements

  • Six months of related experience, on-the-job training, or equivalent.
  • Must be able to walk and stand at equipment for 8 hours or more per day.
  • Must be able to use both hands to finger, handle, feel and reach with hands and arms.
  • Must be able to frequently lift up to 10 pounds and/or move up to 100 pounds.
  • Must have close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus on work.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple written and verbal instructions and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to perform mathematical skills such as: addition, subtractions, multiplication, and division of all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals; and ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate milling machine to mill external surfaces of metal tools.
  • Position and secure product in fixture or feeding machine, start machine, and feed product to cutter to meet required specifications.
  • Manipulate controls to adjust feed rate of product or cutting tool.
  • Control direct flow of coolant against cutter and product.
  • Perform minor maintenance activities on mill, such as changing worn cutters.
  • Verify conformance of work to specifications.
  • Load and unload tools into carts and transport to appropriate staging area for next manufacturing process.
  • Complete the appropriate routing sheet and input data entry information in a timely manner.
  • Other duties as assigned.
