What it's like to be a Mill General Helper at Mill General Helper As a Mill General Helper at Bull Moose Tube, you will find a diverse and engaging work environment where no two days are the same. Your daily tasks will include assisting with machine operations, maintaining a clean and organized workspace, and helping ensure the production line runs smoothly. You'll be expected to follow safety protocols rigorously while collaborating closely with team members to identify and solve any production challenges. Your schedule will typically be Monday through Friday, occasional Saturday working 8-hour shifts, with opportunities for occasional overtime. Multiple shift options may be available, allowing you to choose the schedule that best fits your lifestyle. Requirements

  • Proficiency in operating slitting equipment and coil cars is essential
  • Thorough understanding of metal slitting processes and setups
  • Comfortable reading and using various measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges, along with tape measures to ensure precise work
  • Ability to interpret slitter schedules and utilize shop-floor systems
  • Certifications for forklift and overhead crane operation are required
  • Strong understanding of safety protocols and the proper use of mandatory personal protective equipment (PPE) is vital
  • Capable of lifting up to 100 lbs
  • Familiarity with quality and housekeeping standards
  • Basic computer proficiency for navigating business systems
  • Operation of slitting equipment and coil cars
  • Knowledge of metal slitting processes and setups
  • Proficient in reading micrometer caliper gauges tape measure
  • Skilled in interpreting slitter schedules and using shop-floor systems
  • Forklift and overhead crane operation certification
  • Strong understanding of safety protocols and mandatory PPE use
  • Ability to lift up to 100 lbs
  • Familiarity with quality and housekeeping standards
  • Basic computer proficiency for business systems
  • High School Diploma/equivalent
  • Prior manufacturing experience
  • Machine operating skills or ability to learn and comprehend
  • Speak and read English

Responsibilities

  • Assisting with machine operations
  • Maintaining a clean and organized workspace
  • Helping ensure the production line runs smoothly
  • Following safety protocols rigorously
  • Collaborating closely with team members to identify and solve any production challenges
  • Utilize and operate equipment, material and tools in the inspection and production process for slitting.
  • Oversee all slitting functions.
  • Slitting master coils into respective slit coils of various blank widths for use on the mills.
  • Responsible for safe operation of the slitter in capacity as slitter operator and all ancillary activities that support the production of quality slit coils for internal customers (mills 9 and 4).
  • Complies with all safety, quality, customer focus, preventative maintenance and housekeeping standards.
  • All other duties as assigned and expected.
  • Read and apply micrometer, caliper, gages and tape measure
  • Read and interpret slitter schedule.
  • Understand and use shop floor system
  • Select proper master coils to match slitter schedule
  • Enter master coils into slitter
  • Use of coil car, turnstile and controls for all slitter equipment
  • Operation of all coil entry equipment and controls
  • Proper threading of coil(s) through slitter head to re coiler.
  • Un banding procedure
  • Proper banding of coils
  • Slitter setup: Proper setup of head to match schedule; set up of rubbers, spacers, knives
  • Proper setup of over arm and under arm separator shafts
  • Complete knowledge of Company Safety Rules and precautions
  • Complete knowledge of Company quality requirements
  • Complete knowledge of Company housekeeping rules
  • Ability to run forklift and overhead crane
  • Maintain regular and reliable attendance
  • Work cooperatively with others to ensure constructive and productive business relationships
  • Comply with all Company policies and procedures
  • Be able to understand and effectively use computerized business systems and other technology and business platforms
