About The Position

The MILL Boiler Operator is responsible for firing and operating the boiler safely to protect personnel and property, provide a reliable steam supply, and achieve the highest efficiency consistent with proper operating standards. The role requires a commitment to mill safety policies, scheduled safety training, strict housekeeping, and employee-based leadership and continuous improvement. The operator completes assigned work with minimal supervision and follows Greif’s Standards of Business Conduct Policy.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Knowledge of and ability to work safely in a team environment.
• Clear oral and written communication skills.
• Computer skills in MS Word and Excel.
• Ability to carry out assignments with minimal supervision.
• Basic reading and math skills.
• Experience reading charts, meters, and gauges.
• Ability to use common hand and power tools, such as electric drills and grinders.
• Ability to understand, retain, and perform complex procedures related to boiler operation.
• Knowledge of hands-on mechanical information.
• Experience with steam systems.

Nice To Haves

• Forklift and front-end loader experience.

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain all boilers and boiler-related equipment.
• Fire the boiler to ensure a reliable steam supply.
• Conduct routine equipment checks, inspections, lubrication, and maintenance.
• Log boiler-related changes in the shift log.
• Perform tests and adjustments to maintain proper chemical balance in boiler water, steam, and feedwater.
• Ensure boiler and air pollution control equipment operate within state and federal guidelines.
• Adhere to mill safety policies and attend scheduled safety training.
• Enforce strict housekeeping.
• Complete assigned work with minimal supervision.
• Demonstrate problem-solving skills, honesty, integrity, and responsibility.
