About The Position

The Mill Assistant supports mill operations in producing welded and cold-drawn mechanical steel tubing and related products. The role assists with changeovers, operates the splicer and shear press, prepares incoming materials, follows welds through the mill, and helps maintain product quality and production flow. The assistant runs the mill through operator breaks and assumes the operator’s responsibilities during those periods. The position requires monitoring product for defects and straightness, making adjustments to edge tools or the temper mill as needed, checking tubing length, and assisting with tests under the Mill Operator’s direction. The employee helps determine whether tubing is acceptable, separates rejected material, and places scrap in the scrap bunker. The Mill Assistant is also responsible for safe and clean operations, keeping guards in place, reporting maintenance concerns, completing production paperwork, and carrying out duties in accordance with the PTC Quality Management System. Other duties may be assigned by the shift supervisor. The role is based at the Minneapolis location and has a stated day shift, though candidates must be flexible with shifts and hours.
