This position is in support of schools associated with Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Maine. The primary responsibility is to provide the full breadth of Child and Youth Behavioral (CYB) counseling services to children of all ages of military service members and their families, both on and off military installations. Services may include non-medical counseling, training and health and wellness presentations, consultation with parents, personnel, and schools, and consultation to installation command regarding behavioral health issues affecting children and youth. CYB School counselors will be assigned to Department of Defense (DoDEA) schools and community schools, and will need to have experience working in a school setting. They will also be assigned to youth programs, summer camps, and on-demand assignments. Counselors work closely with installation and military branch Points of Contact (POC) to ensure the program is provided within scope and meets the needs of the installation and schools. The role involves providing non-medical, short-term, solution-focused counseling, including assessment, brief counseling, consultation, action planning, referral to resources, and follow-up. CYB counselors will also support school staff and personnel, and provide parent training and guidance. They will participate in health fairs and other base activities. Daily data entry is required for reporting, maintaining confidentiality. Establishing and maintaining relationships with community resources is essential. Counselors must adhere to line-of-sight protocol. They will partner with POCs to address installation needs and develop professional working relationships. Management of duty to warn and restricted reporting situations according to DoD protocol is required, with staffing of cases with a Regional Supervisor/Director. Communication with the Regional Supervisor and participation in supervision are key. Responding to critical incidents and special requests is also part of the role. Participation in regular in-services/training, Quality Improvement committees, initiatives, studies, pilot programs, and other contract activities as assigned is expected. All other duties as assigned.
