About The Position

Blue Cross NC’s Department of War (DoW) SkillBridge Program offers active-duty service members in their final months of service hands-on experience in a civilian healthcare work environment. This unpaid internship is intended for training and provides an opportunity to explore a career path in healthcare; it does not guarantee employment after the program. A minimum 12-week commitment is required, and participation depends on approval from the service member’s commanding officer and service branch. The Military Engagement Advisor develops and executes strategic initiatives for military and veteran communities to advance Blue Cross NC’s brand, business objectives, member outreach and retention, and community impact. The role focuses on improving healthcare access, behavioral health resources, benefits education, and attention to social determinants of health for active-duty service members, veterans, and military families. It works with County Engagement teams and cross-functional business units, primarily in support of Healthy Blue, Blue Cross NC’s Medicaid plan. The intern builds partnerships, leads community engagement and education activities, advises on military and veteran community needs, and manages projects and programs. Interns are responsible for their own housing, transportation, and living expenses and must follow company policies and professional conduct standards. Placement is not guaranteed and depends on available learning opportunities and alignment between the service member’s skills and organizational needs. Selected candidates participate in a formal interview process. To be eligible for future full-time employment at Blue Cross NC, individuals must reside and work in one of the states listed in the posting.
