The Milieu Supervisor provides leadership and oversight within the Caritas Teen Pregnancy Treatment Center milieu to ensure trauma-informed mental health services are delivered effectively and consistently. This role supervises direct care staff, promotes resident safety, supports treatment goals, and collaborates with clinical and service coordination teams to help youth successfully transition to less restrictive environments.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Minimum five (5) years of experience working with youth with complex mental health needs, at-risk youth, or similar populations. Equivalent combinations of advanced education and relevant experience may be considered.
  • Must meet State of Illinois requirements for designation as a Mental Health Professional (MHP).
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise, coach, develop, and evaluate staff while effectively addressing concerns from clients, families, leadership, regulatory agencies, and community stakeholders.
  • Strong communication, active listening, critical thinking, reading comprehension, writing, learning agility, and performance monitoring skills. Ability to effectively understand, interpret, and communicate information while supporting ongoing staff and youth development.
  • Ability to build relationships, provide instruction and coaching, promote teamwork, resolve conflict, influence positive behavior change, and maintain a strong service-oriented approach when working with youth, families, and colleagues.
  • Ability to make sound decisions under pressure, assess risks, prioritize competing demands, solve complex problems, meet deadlines, and exercise appropriate judgment in situations impacting youth safety, staff performance, agency reputation, and program operations.
  • Proficient Computer Skills In: Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word, Microsoft Teams, and office technology systems.
  • Ability to effectively manage personnel resources, staffing assignments, scheduling, employee development, accountability measures, and time management for self and others.
  • Knowledge of residential treatment operations, crisis intervention practices, documentation standards, Medicaid and licensing compliance requirements, employee supervision, and trauma-informed service delivery.
  • Must display a willingness to adopt trauma-informed interventions, principles, and practices as well as a commitment to ongoing development of their capacity for application of trauma-informed care. Realizes the prevalence of trauma among persons served by Caritas and the general population. Recognizes how trauma affects everyone involved—including clients, their families, staff, and community—and impacts behaviors. Responds to trauma by actively implementing the guiding principles of trauma-informed care into daily practice. Resists re-traumatization of persons served and staff by creating safe, welcoming, and supportive environments.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's Degree in a Human Services-related field.
  • Supervisory experience within a residential treatment or behavioral health setting.
  • Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) Trainer Certification.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a regular physical presence within the milieu.
  • Ensure the physical and emotional safety of residents, including mandated reporting responsibilities.
  • Monitor direct care staff compliance with policies, procedures, schedules, and trauma-informed practices.
  • Train, coach, and support staff in de-escalation and crisis intervention techniques.
  • Model professionalism and trauma-informed care at all times.
  • Participate in treatment planning and implementation discussions.
  • Assign duties, monitor performance, and hold staff accountable for outcomes.
  • Ensure compliance with agency, DCFS, Medicaid, and COA standards.
  • Conduct and document regular employee supervision sessions.
  • Participate in treatment team meetings and agency leadership meetings.
  • Monitor staffing ratios and provide direct care coverage when necessary.
  • Complete all required annual training requirements.
  • Maintain certification as a TCI Trainer and provide training to staff.
  • Additional duties as assigned.
