About The Position

The Midnight Packer, also referred to as a Packing Utility Worker, is responsible for ensuring the quality of aluminum through measurement and visual inspections. This role involves working one-on-one with a partner during the 10 PM to 6 AM shift. Key duties include reading packaging specifications, retrieving and moving racks of aluminum, preparing work surfaces, cutting wood for bundles, and using basic hand tools like a retractable knife and deburr tool. The worker will pack aluminum according to customer specifications, manually move metal and materials, and document production information both on paper and a computer. The position requires adherence to all company and safety policies, as well as packing procedures. The work environment is a factory/manufacturing setting with fluctuating temperatures (hot to cold) and a high noise level. Physical demands include frequent walking, bending, stooping, twisting, turning, climbing, pushing/pulling, and lifting up to 25lbs frequently and 50lbs occasionally. The individual must be aware of their surroundings and be able to communicate effectively in English and/or Spanish.

Requirements

  • Must comply with company policies including but not limited to all safety policies
  • Must follow all Packing procedures and guidelines
  • Must know how to read a tape measure or be willing to learn for quality checks
  • Must be 18 years of age to work in the plant
  • Must have ability to read and understand basic instructions (Spanish instructions are provided as needed)
  • Must have the ability to communicate verbally and in writing
  • Must be willing to participate in all required job and or employment related trainings. This includes but is not limited to all safety and technical or role or tool specific trainings.
  • Ability to walk, bend, stoop, twist, turn, climb and push/pull frequently
  • Ability to work above ground level (off the ground) occasionally with proper safety equipment
  • Awareness of movement and/or noises around them at all times
  • Ability to move 25lbs frequently and up to 50lbs occasionally
  • Ability to remain stationary and/or traverse the factory as needed per essential duties of the position
  • Be an effective communicator verbally and in writing
  • Ability to read and follow written procedures (English/Spanish instructions will be made available as needed)

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with computers is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the quality of aluminum is inspected by performing measurement checks and visual inspections
  • Work one on one with a partner for the whole shift, unless otherwise told by the Supervisor
  • Read packaging specs to ensure proper bundling
  • Retrieve racks of aluminum from holding area
  • Push racks of aluminum to workstation
  • Lift and position work horses on tables
  • Cut wood for bundles with a miter saw as needed
  • Use basic hand tools throughout shift (Retractable knife, deburr, etc.)
  • Pack the aluminum with the appropriate material per customer specifications
  • Move metal and/or materials manually as required
  • Document the appropriate production information on paper and a computer
