About The Position

Morgan Stanley is seeking a Middleware Integration Specialist to join their Application and Data Engineering (ADE) team. This role involves designing, building, and automating technology platforms both on-premises and in the cloud. The ADE team utilizes various tools for platform design and application troubleshooting, and provides level 4 production support to application operations teams. As a Software Engineering III position at Director level, it is part of the job family responsible for developing and maintaining software solutions. Morgan Stanley, a global leader in financial services since 1935, operates in over 40 countries. The Montreal team specifically supports the Firm’s global businesses with cutting-edge technology and innovation, including electronic trading, algorithm trading, cloud engineering, infrastructure, cybersecurity, and AI/ML. The position is located in Montreal, Quebec, and offers a hybrid work environment, requiring knowledge of both French and English.

Requirements

At least 6 years of experience in a similar role of hands-on application / middleware specialist.
Strong infrastructure knowledge in Linux / Unix, Storage and Networking.
Prior experience managing large web-based n-tier applications in secure environments on cloud.
Hands-on experience with load balancers, web servers (Apache / Nginx), application servers (Tomcat) to include application integration, configuration, and troubleshooting.
Hands-on experience with containerization (Docker/Podman containers, Kubernetes / OpenShift).
Expert level scripting skills using Python (mandatory) and Shell.
Familiar with IT Automation & Config Management tools (Ansible / Helm).
Experience with source control and continuous integration / continuous delivery pipelines (Jenkins, Artifactory, Flux).
Familiar with security hardening concepts for hosting applications or middleware, including transport encryption, modern single sign-on authentication and authorization mechanisms.
Basic operational knowledge of RDBMS and SQL.

Nice To Haves

Experience with GenAI and Agentic AI.
Exposure to Big Data platforms (Hadoop / ELK Stack) and graph databases (GraphDB, Stardog, Neptune), including SPARQL query language.
Familiarity with Kafka, Redis, Airflow, and open-source Observability tools (Grafana, Prometheus, OpenTelemetry, Loki).
Identity management protocols (OIDC / OAuth, SAML, LDAP integration) and capacity planning and performance tuning of applications and middleware platforms.
System architecture / developer work experience.
Prior experience in a global financial organization is an advantage.

Responsibilities

Apply technical skills to design, build and automate technology platforms both on-premises and cloud.
Partner with other groups in Morgan Stanley such as Enterprise Infrastructure, MIS, Networking, Security, Storage, Database and Data Center teams to roll out technology platforms successfully as per best practices.
Coordinate signoffs for non-functional requirement testing with development and business teams.
Maintain a 360-degree view of applications and their underlying middleware and infrastructure components, ensuring resiliency and scalability.
Produce reusable infrastructure and middleware designs patterns for future reference and refresh existing ones on a regular basis.
Support vendor / vendor technology onboarding following Morgan Stanley best practices and security blueprints.
Adopt, build and rollout new technology stacks for NFRT for cloud-based and on-prem applications.
Automate daily support functions, improve system stability, support hygiene initiatives and deliver innovation that creates efficiency and consistency.
