About The Position

LakeVille Community Schools is seeking a highly motivated candidate to serve as a Middle School Special Education Teacher. The successful candidate will create a class environment favorable to learning and personal growth, establish effective rapport with pupils, motivate pupils to develop skills, attitudes, and knowledge needed to master the course content, and establish good relationships with parents and other staff members. The district serves approximately 1000 students in PreK-12th grade and offers a 1:1 technology K-12 environment with all students having Chromebooks. The district has an active, engaged, and supportive school board.

Requirements

• Possession of a Bachelor’s degree or higher degree
• A valid Michigan teaching certificate
• Meets Highly Qualified Requirements in Special Education
• Teaching Certificate with at least one of the following endorsements: Autism (SV), Cognitive Impairment (SA), Emotional Impairment (SE), Learning Disability (SM)
• Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school administration, students, and parents.
• Must have excellent organizational skills
• Must have the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
• Must satisfactorily pass a criminal background check as defined by the State of Michigan

Nice To Haves

• Preferred candidates will hold special education certification
• Candidates with a valid elementary teaching certificate may be considered if they demonstrate a willingness to pursue special education certification and meet certification requirements within a district-approved timeline.

Responsibilities

• Teaches content using the courses of study adopted by the Board of Education and other appropriate learning activities.
• Translates the curriculum into engaging and creative lesson plans that best utilize available instructional time.
• Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of each learner.
• Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve an effective learning atmosphere in the classroom.
• Uses district assessments along with summative and formative assessments to evaluate student’s academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records, and prepares progress reports.
• Communicates regularly with parents through a variety of means such as phone calls, district student information systems, district approved applications, district email and other means.
• Identifies pupil needs and cooperates with other professional staff members to assess and help pupils solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
• Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and self–selected professional growth activities.
• Selects and requisitions books, materials, and instructional aids; maintains required inventory records.
• Supervises pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day.
• Administers group standardized tests per the district testing program.
• Participates in faculty committees and sponsors pupil activities.
• Participates in curriculum development as necessary.
• Develop and implement progressive classroom-based interventions grounded in MTSS.
