About The Position

The River Valley School District is seeking a Middle School Wrestling Coach. This position will be based at River Valley Middle/High School & New Buffalo High School. The coach will be responsible for managing athletes' behavior, modeling and teaching good sportsmanship, ensuring athlete health and safety, developing practice and game plans, and communicating with athletes, parents, and colleagues. This role requires a commitment to building a strong partnership between the River Valley and New Buffalo high school programs through excellent communication and collaboration.

Requirements

  • Has a high school diploma or its equivalency.
  • Has playing experience in sport.
  • Demonstrated coaching experience and knowledge of MHSAA standards and guidelines.
  • Has excellent communication skills.
  • Has the ability to develop professional working relationships with staff, parents, students, and community members.
  • Commitment to building a strong partnership between River Valley and New Buffalo high school programs and athletic departments through a cooperative agreement that requires excellent communication and collaboration skills with both districts.
  • Has the ability to work as a team with other coaching staff and school administrators.
  • Has experience working with middle/high school students.
  • Reliable, regular, and punctual on-site attendance is required to perform the essential functions, duties, and responsibilities of a coach.

Responsibilities

  • Manage athletes’ behavior by modeling, teaching, and reinforcing clear expectations in a firm, fair, and supportive manner so kids can fulfill their potential as adults.
  • Model, teach, expect and enforce good sportsmanship.
  • Take all necessary precautions to provide for the health and safety of athletes and to protect equipment, materials, and facilities - including taking inventories.
  • Develop and implement engaging and effective practice and game plans.
  • Help establish and communicate clear objectives for all athletes.
  • Help to provide individualized and small group instruction to meet the needs of each athlete.
  • Monitor and evaluate the progress of individual athletes; and use the information to adjust coaching strategies.
  • Participate in team, coaches and parent meetings.
  • Help communicate necessary information regularly to athletes, parents and colleagues regarding athlete progress, needs, and scheduling updates.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
