About The Position

Charlotte Country Day School (Country Day) is seeking a Middle School Volleyball Assistant Coach to join its athletics program. This is a part-time, seasonal position (August-October) primarily involving afternoon and evening practices and competitions, with occasional weekend work. Out-of-season responsibilities are more flexible. The role supports the head coach in all aspects of the middle school volleyball program, focusing on student-athlete development and supervision, and collaborating with the Volleyball Program Head to achieve program goals. The school emphasizes academic rigor, diverse offerings, and a commitment to developing students' potential through intellectual curiosity, principled character, ethical leadership, and service. Country Day is dedicated to fostering an authentic, inclusive community that values diversity and prepares students for future success.

Requirements

  • At least a bachelor’s degree.
  • Experience coaching volleyball at middle school, high school, club, or collegiate level.
  • First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Must exhibit enthusiasm for the role of athletics in an independent school setting.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented environment.
  • Employment is contingent upon an approved criminal background check.

  • Willingness to pursue a certification from National Federation of State High School Associations (CIC – Certified Interscholastic Coach or AIC – Accredited Interscholastic Coach).
  • Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class B with Endorsements of P (passenger) and S (school bus) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Instruct players in the rules, regulations, equipment, and technique of the sport.
  • Assist with planning and organizing tryouts, practices, and games operations.
  • Assess player’s skills, monitor players during competitions and practice, and keep the Field Hockey Program Head informed of the athletics performance of student-athletes.
  • Organize and direct individuals and small group practices/exercises.
  • Follow established procedures in the event of an athlete’s injury.
  • Model sports-like behavior and maintain appropriate conduct towards players, officials, and spectators.
  • Participate in special activities to include parent’s night and end of season team gathering.
  • Supervise and instruct student-athletes during all team activities.
  • Assist with maintenance and inventory of team equipment and apparel.
  • Regular communication with team parents and athletics program staff regarding team activities.
  • Attend required team and interscholastic athletics program meetings.
  • Support multi-sport participation for student-athletes.
  • Promote balanced achievement in all areas of school life for student-athletes.
  • Comply with all Charlotte Country Day School, North Carolina Independent Schools Athletic Association, Greater Charlotte Middle School Athletics Association, and Charlotte Independent Schools Athletic Association policies and procedures.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by the Director of Athletics, Health, and Wellness.
