About The Position

Creative STEAM Academy is seeking a passionate, creative, and credentialed Middle School Teacher for its 5th-8th grade Learning Center. This role is for an educator who believes learning should be relevant, human, and alive, moving beyond traditional textbook methods to foster meaningful connections through conversations, hands-on projects, critical thinking, storytelling, problem-solving, and life skills. The academy focuses on building humans, not just teaching subjects, within a 501(c)(3) nonprofit learning center in Laguna Woods, CA. They emphasize small class sizes, hands-on learning, creative exploration, and meaningful academic support, believing education should be personal, engaging, and deeply human. Teachers at Creative STEAM act as mentors, guides, and creators, fostering an environment where students are known, challenged, and encouraged to think boldly and collaborate.

Requirements

  • Holds a Bachelor’s degree and a valid California Multiple Subject Teaching Credential.
  • Has experience teaching or working with upper elementary and middle school students, especially 5th–8th grade learners.
  • Genuinely enjoys middle school students.
  • Can connect academic content to real-world applications.
  • Believes students learn best when they are actively engaged.
  • Enjoys designing creative lessons without being locked into rigid scripts or one-size-fits-all curriculum.
  • Thrives in a device-conscious classroom where real dialogue, hands-on learning, and human connection come first.
  • Communicates clearly, warmly, and professionally with students, families, colleagues, and leadership.
  • Understands child development and brings patience, structure, warmth, and emotional intelligence into the classroom.

Responsibilities

  • Design and teach hands-on, project-based lessons across ELA, Math, Science, and Social Studies for 5th–8th grade students.
  • Create curriculum that connects academic skills to real-world problem solving, communication, critical thinking, creativity, and decision-making.
  • Bring ELA to life through reading, writing, storytelling, discussion, grammar, research, debate, and self-expression.
  • Make Math meaningful through budgeting, data, patterns, logic, problem-solving, and practical real-life applications.
  • Lead Science and Social Studies lessons that connect discovery, history, culture, ecosystems, community, and current-world thinking.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet students where they are academically, socially, and emotionally.
  • Use movement, discussion, collaboration, projects, and hands-on activities that help learning stick long after class ends.
  • Support the whole child by weaving in social-emotional learning, confidence-building, communication skills, and life skills.
  • Maintain a warm, structured, and engaging classroom environment where students feel safe, seen, and motivated to participate.
  • Track student progress, adjust instruction as needed, and celebrate academic and personal growth along the way.
  • Communicate regularly and warmly with families, staff, and school leadership.
