About The Position

Lee A. Tolbert Community Academy (LATCA) is a public charter K-8 school in Kansas City, Missouri, focused on preparing students for extraordinary opportunities through challenging real-world learning, social-emotional development, and mentorship. Requirements

  • A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university.
  • A valid Missouri Teacher's Certificate (applicable level-area endorsements preferred) or ability to earn one.
  • Ability to pass an extensive background check.
  • Timely and consistent attendance throughout school hours (8am-4pm) and additional pre-scheduled staff obligations and meetings.
  • A firm belief that all LATCA students can achieve extraordinary results with the right supports.
  • Passion for personal growth demonstrated by openness to feedback and coaching.
  • Takes initiative to address challenges and brings a solutions-oriented approach.
  • Evidence of the willingness and the ability to comply with the standards for ethical and professional performance established by the State Board of Education and LATCA.
  • Organized, self-starter with the ability to adapt to support the best interest of the student.
  • Ability to maintain student confidentiality.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and adapt curriculum aligned to state and Common Core standards.
  • Design and internalize assessments and analyze student learning data to refine planning decisions.
  • Plan and internalize lessons to facilitate learning in a manner that students own significant cognitive lift of grade level content.
  • Consistently operate with the belief that with high expectations and high support, all students are capable of mastering rigorous material.
  • Take personal accountability for student results.
  • Establish high expectations through clear directions and routines, intentional relationship building, clarity, and by being a “warm demander”.
  • Hold students and self accountable through consistent utilization of restorative practices and a trauma-informed approach.
  • Collaborate with families to support students through any personal, academic, and behavioral challenges.
