About The Position

Forte Prep is seeking a dedicated Middle School Special Education teacher for the 2025-2026 school year, beginning August 2026. This role is for a leader passionate about building community and committed to the persistence and stamina required to foster student growth. The ideal candidate will not shy away from giving critical feedback, can navigate diverse communication styles, and is eager to improve. The primary goal is to provide students with choices for their next level of education in a learning environment that is simultaneously challenging, stimulating, and fun. Forte Prep is a tuition-free public charter school serving grades 5-12 in Queens, NY, with a focus on the Jackson Heights, East Elmhurst, and Corona communities. The school educates 700 students and is committed to rigorous academics, quality instruction, and a positive culture of responsibility. Forte Prep students have consistently outperformed local and state averages in ELA and Math. The school is committed to preparation for high school, college, and beyond, with literacy and math at its core. They are dedicated to unlocking potential in every student through creative and digital enrichment, remediation, and individualization based on data. Requirements

  • Teaching experience in urban communities preferred.
  • NY Certification to teach math preferred.
  • Demonstrated quantifiable and objective student performance gains that surpass state or local averages.
  • Ability to work with a variety of learning abilities, including those with special needs and low skill level in a heterogeneously grouped classroom setting.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with parents and community members.
  • Bachelor's degree in education or mathematics.
  • Highly Qualified as defined by No Child Left Behind.
  • Ability to reliably commute or relocate before starting work is required.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and execute high-quality classroom lessons.
  • Support the emotional and behavioral development of all students.
  • Work collaboratively with other general education teachers and engage in co-planning.
