About The Position

Saint Patrick Catholic School is seeking a Middle School Spanish Teacher for the 2026-2027 academic year to support students in grades 5-6. The school, founded in 2005 in Norfolk, Virginia, serves approximately 400 students from pre-kindergarten through eighth grade. It is an independent Catholic school that emphasizes a growth mindset and focuses on six pillars of education for the total formation of each student. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Spanish or related field.
  • 2-4 years of teaching experience in Spanish, preferably in middle or high school.
  • Commitment to serving as a role model for students.
  • Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time.
  • Ability to lift at least 50 pounds, climb stairs, bend, crouch, crawl, stoop and run.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree.
  • Comfortable incorporating the teaching of Spanish culture (festivals, food, dress, social conventions).
  • Experience with classroom management.
  • Experience working with digital technologies.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to solve problems without sacrificing relationships.
  • Licensed by the Virginia Department of Education.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and administer meaningful instructional plans and curriculum aligned with school standards.
  • Develop students' fundamental skills in Spanish grammar and vocabulary, with a focus on reading proficiency, supplemented by speaking and writing activities.
  • Promote a safe, respectful classroom environment conducive to individualized and small group instruction.
  • Develop weekly lesson plans and instructional materials, translating them into effective learning experiences.
  • Conduct ongoing assessments of student learning and modify instructional methods as needed.
  • Provide constructive student feedback and grades according to school policy.
  • Continue professional development by attending seminars, workshops, or meetings.
  • Organize and maintain accurate records for student activities, achievement, and attendance.
  • Ensure effective communication with students and parents, encouraging collaboration and providing regular feedback.
  • Coordinate with peers to evaluate and assess curriculum.
  • Attend faculty and department meetings, contributing to teamwork and positive morale.
  • Participate in faith formation experiences.
  • Perform other duties as directed by school administration.
