Middle School Spanish Language Arts Teacher
About The Position
Denver Language School (DLS) is a public, tuition-free language immersion charter school located in East Denver. DLS provides an innovative academic program to reach the highest levels of student achievement through comprehensive language immersion education in Spanish and Mandarin Chinese. DLS offers traditional learning activities in the target language, making the language both the medium and the object of instruction. This role supports the academic growth of students through the implementation of DLS pedagogy, comprehensive classroom management, implementing effective engagement strategies, and building authentic teacher/student relationships. This role is responsible for effective instruction and management of a classroom of middle-schoolers. The Spanish Language Arts Teacher is a contributing member of the Spanish Immersion Program and works closely with campus principals, instructional leaders and teachers, parents/families, and students to ensure measurable positive student outcomes.
Requirements
- 3+ years of teaching experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Education or closely related field
- Completion of required READ Act training
- Official college transcripts (evaluated by NACES member, if you completed your education outside the US)
- Passing score on Praxis 5581 within one year of hire
- Proficiency in Common Core Social Studies standards
- Native or near-native Spanish speaking

- Previous immersion or Dual Language Immersion teaching experience

- Use restorative justice and liberatory design to encourage a classroom environment that reflects reciprocal respect and the presence of a warm demander to manage a classroom of middle school students
- Work with parents and colleagues to build relationships with community members to deepen learning opportunities
- Communicate with a wide range of students while providing scaffolding for all learners
- Utilize formative and summative assessments to determine student pacing and needs
- Additional tasks and/or assignments to further the mission and vision of the school, as assigned
