About The Position

The Girls’ Middle School (GMS) is seeking a passionate Middle School Softball Coach for the fall season, which runs from August 24 to October 10, 2026. GMS is an independent school located in Palo Alto, competing in the West Bay Athletics League (WBAL). The school is committed to progressive education, innovative programming, and fostering an inclusive community where girls are encouraged to find their voices, take risks, and become self-reliant. The athletics program emphasizes inclusion and participation for all students, regardless of ability or experience, with teams organized at different levels (Varsity and Junior Varsity) to accommodate a range of skills. The coaching environment is positive, encouraging, and fun, focusing on developing technical, tactical, and teamwork skills.

Requirements

• Experience coaching softball and an understanding of the fundamentals of the sport
• Experience coaching youth
• Prepare well-organized training plans
• Available after school from 2:45 pm to 6:00 pm at least two/three weekdays per week
• Punctual
• Strong and clear communication skills
• Work and collaborate well with youth and other coaches
• Valid California driver’s license
• A minimum of five years of driving experience
• Good driving record to drive school vans
• Must pass a background check, LiveScan, and TB (Tuberculosis) Risk Assessment
• CPR and First Aid Training must be completed before the first day of work
• Authorized to work in the United States

• Experience outside the educational field is welcomed

Responsibilities

• Assisting with tryouts and team configuration
• Running two after-school practices per week
• Creating training plans
• Attending all games (approximately once per week)
• Driving players from school to practice and game locations using school vans
• Supervising the team until all players have been picked up from practice/games
