About The Position

Saint Mary Magdalene School, a vibrant and culturally diverse prek-K through 8 school, located at 2940 Parkside Road in Columbus, is seeking a Middle School Social Studies Teacher for the 2026-2027 school year. The ideal candidate would be hardworking, collaborative and demonstrate a high degree of self-efficacy, holding themselves accountable for learner outcomes. This candidate will maintain a growth mindset toward student learning, teaching practice, and personal/collective professional development who facilitates problem-solving, with a curious mind and critical thinking skills, showing a high degree of creative application in the implementation of data-driven curriculum and practice.

Requirements

  • Hold an appropriate Ohio teaching license (Professional, Permanent, or Resident Educator) or be eligible to obtain one before beginning to teach
  • Current satisfactory BCI & FBI background checks
  • Have attended or be willing to attend a Virtus Protecting God's Children training
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Appropriate state certification/license: as required by the grade levels and subjects taught
  • Religious Education certification as required by the diocese

Responsibilities

  • Plan, prepare and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials that facilitate active learning.
  • Develops schemes of work, lesson plans and tests that are in accordance with established procedures.
  • Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment.
  • Use relevant technology to support and differentiate instruction.
  • Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures.
  • Maintain discipline in accordance with the rules and disciplinary systems of the school.
  • Provide appropriate feedback on work.
  • Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students and use information to adjust teaching strategies.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records of students' progress and development.
  • Update all necessary records accurately and completely as required by laws, policies and school regulations.
  • Prepare required reports on students and activities.
  • Participate in grade-band, school, and parent meetings.
  • Communicate necessary information regularly to students, colleagues and parents regarding student progress and student needs.
  • Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities.
  • Prepare classroom for class activities.
  • Provide a variety of learning materials and resources for use in educational activities.
  • Observe and evaluate student's performance and development.
  • Assign and grade class work, homework, tests and assignments.
  • Demonstrate preparation and skill in working with students from diverse cultural, economic and ability backgrounds.
  • Encourage parent and community involvement, obtain information for parents when requested, promptly return phone calls and answer emails.
  • Participate in appropriate professional activities.
  • Participate in school committees that enhance the community and supplement student learning.
  • Assist students in mastering the skills and information in the school curriculum while helping them to grow in faith and responsibility.
  • Integrate Catholic teachings and virtues throughout the curriculum and school culture as it supports faith formation and student learning.
  • Understand student learning, development, and faith formation while respecting the diversity of students.
  • Know and understand the content for which they have instructional responsibility.
  • Understand and use varied assessments to inform instruction, evaluate and ensure student learning.
  • Plan and deliver effective instruction that advances the learning of each individual student.
  • Create Christ-centered learning environments that promote high levels of learning and achievement for all students.
  • Collaborate and communicate with students, parents, other educators, administrators and the faith community to support student development, learning and faith.
  • Assume responsibility for their professional academic/spiritual growth, performance, and involvement as an individual and as a member of a Catholic learning community.
