About The Position

Saint Mary Magdalene School is seeking a 5th Grade Teacher for the 2026-2027 school year. This is a full-time position at a Pre-K through 8 school. The ideal candidate will be hardworking, collaborative, and demonstrate a high degree of self-efficacy, holding themselves accountable for learner outcomes. They should maintain a growth mindset toward student learning, teaching practice, and personal/collective professional development, facilitating problem-solving with a curious mind and critical thinking skills, and showing creative application in the implementation of data-driven curriculum and practice. Catholic affiliation is preferred but not required.

Requirements

Hold an appropriate Ohio teaching license (Professional, Permanent, or Resident Educator) or be eligible to obtain one before beginning to teach.
Current satisfactory BCI & FBI background checks.
Have attended or be willing to attend a Virtus Protecting God's Children training.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Appropriate state certification/license: as required by the grade levels and subjects taught.
Religious Education certification as required by the diocese.

Responsibilities

Plan, prepare and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials that facilitate active learning.
Develop schemes of work, lesson plans and tests that are in accordance with established procedures.
Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment.
Use relevant technology to support and differentiate instruction.
Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures.
Maintain discipline in accordance with the rules and disciplinary systems of the school.
Provide appropriate feedback on work.
Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students and use information to adjust teaching strategies.
Maintain accurate and complete records of students' progress and development.
Update all necessary records accurately and completely as required by laws, policies and school regulations.
Prepare required reports on students and activities.
Participate in grade-band, school, and parent meetings.
Communicate necessary information regularly to students, colleagues and parents regarding student progress and student needs.
Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities.
Prepare classroom for class activities.
Provide a variety of learning materials and resources for educational activities.
Observe and evaluate student's performance and development.
Assign and grade class work, homework, tests and assignments.
Demonstrate preparation and skill in working with students from diverse cultural, economic and ability backgrounds.
Encourage parent and community involvement, obtain information for parents when requested, promptly return phone calls and answer emails.
Participate in appropriate professional activities.
Participate in school committees that enhance the community and supplement student learning.
Assist students in mastering the skills and information in the school curriculum while helping them to grow in faith and responsibility.
Contribute to the integration of Catholic teachings and virtues throughout the curriculum and school culture as it supports faith formation and student learning.
Understand student learning, development, and faith formation while respecting the diversity of students.
Know and understand the content for which they have instructional responsibility.
Use varied assessments to inform instruction, evaluate and ensure student learning.
Plan and deliver effective instruction that advances the learning of each individual student.
Create Christ-centered learning environments that promote high levels of learning and achievement for all students.
Collaborate and communicate with students, parents, other educators, administrators and the faith community to support student development, learning and faith.
Assume responsibility for their professional academic/spiritual growth, performance, and involvement as an individual and as a member of a Catholic learning community.
