The Middle School Social Studies Teacher is responsible for designing and delivering engaging, standards-aligned Social Studies instruction that accelerates student achievement while fostering curiosity, confidence, and a love of learning. Teachers create a structured, inclusive, and supportive classroom culture where every student is challenged, valued, and empowered to succeed. All instruction is delivered using the approved curriculum, instructional resources, and digital platforms provided by Performance Academies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Social Studies, Education or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • Valid Ohio teaching license (or ability to obtain licensure).
  • Strong knowledge of Ohio Learning Standards and effective instructional practices.
  • Ability to analyze and use assessment data to improve student achievement.
  • Excellent classroom management and relationship-building skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with educational technology and digital instructional platforms.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience teaching Social Studies in grades 6–8 preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver engaging, standards-aligned Social Studies lessons using Performance Academies' approved curriculum and instructional resources.
  • Develop lesson plans that promote conceptual understanding, reasoning, problem-solving, and real-world application.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse academic needs of all learners.
  • Use formative and summative assessment data, classroom assessments, and state testing data, to drive instructional decisions and accelerate student growth.
  • Implement curriculum maps and pacing guides to ensure instructional fidelity.
  • Utilize technology, hands-on activities, inquiry-based learning, and collaborative learning structures to maximize student engagement.
  • Maintain accurate lesson plans, instructional records, assessment data, and student work samples.
  • Support student attendance through engaging instruction, positive relationships, and regular communication with families.
  • Participate in student recruitment, enrollment, and retention initiatives as requested.
  • Foster a safe, respectful, and inclusive classroom culture where all students are expected and supported to succeed.
  • Establish clear routines, behavioral expectations, and classroom procedures that maximize instructional time.
  • Implement the school's Character Education program and reinforce positive behaviors consistently.
  • Maintain an organized, welcoming, and academically stimulating classroom environment.
  • Supervise students appropriately at all times and ensure student safety remains a top priority.
  • Promote equity, integrity, respect, and belonging in every interaction with students, families, and colleagues.
  • Execute the school's mission, vision, and instructional expectations with professionalism and consistency.
  • Deliver instruction that promotes deep conceptual understanding and higher-order thinking.
  • Clearly communicate learning objectives and success criteria for every lesson.
  • Regularly monitor student understanding and provide timely, meaningful feedback.
  • Adjust instruction based on assessment data to ensure continuous student growth.
  • Set ambitious academic expectations while providing appropriate interventions and enrichment.
  • Work toward achieving strong student growth as measured through local and state assessments.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, instructional coaches, intervention specialists, and administrators to improve student outcomes.
  • Participate actively in professional learning, Teacher-Based Teams (TBTs), Building Leadership Teams (BLTs), IAT meetings, IEP meetings, faculty meetings, and school improvement initiatives.
  • Build strong partnerships with families through proactive communication and parent conferences.
  • Participate in school events, community outreach, and enrollment activities that strengthen the academy and its culture.
  • Maintain professional standards, confidentiality, and compliance with all federal, state, and school policies.
  • Complete required documentation accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrate professionalism through attendance, preparedness, collaboration, and appropriate professional attire.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal, Assistant Principal, or Superintendent.
