About The Position

The Social Studies/STEM Teacher plays a vital role in shaping students' understanding of their world, helping them become informed and responsible global citizens. The teacher will instruct IB courses: Individuals & Society (50%) and Design (50%). This position requires dedication, adaptability, and a passion for teaching social studies concepts to middle school students. The Social Studies/STEM Teacher is responsible for planning, delivering, and assessing engaging social studies lessons for middle school students. They help students explore various design concepts, technology, historical events, cultures, geography, and civic concepts to foster a well-rounded understanding of the world. The teacher creates a positive and inclusive classroom environment, encourages active participation, and monitors student progress to ensure academic growth and development.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's and/or Master's Degree in Education
  • PA Instructional I Certification OR Intern Instructional I Certification
  • Content knowledge and skills to successfully teach assigned content areas and grade levels, in addition to classroom management, organization, planning, instructional delivery, and technical skills
  • Ability to motivate and build relationships with parents, students and staff to promote student achievement and strengthen community partnerships.

Responsibilities

  • Implementing a comprehensive social studies curriculum that aligns with grade-level standards and educational objectives.
  • Creating detailed lesson plans that incorporate various teaching methods, resources, and activities to engage students in meaningful learning experiences.
  • Teaching students about historical events, geography, cultures, and civic responsibilities using age-appropriate instructional strategies, such as lectures, discussions, projects, and multimedia resources.
  • Providing instruction using a variety of teaching techniques and strategies, such as visual aids, hands-on activities, and cooperative learning
  • Assessing student progress, monitoring student achievement and adjusting instruction as necessary to ensure that students are making progress toward language proficiency and academic goals
  • Working collaboratively with other teachers, school administrators and parents to ensure that the program is effective, meets the needs of all students and provides opportunities for students to develop cultural competence and appreciation for different cultures
