About The Position

Sun Valley Academy is seeking an enthusiastic and passionate Middle School Science Teacher for grades 6-8. The ideal candidate will be committed to helping students develop curiosity, critical thinking, and scientific literacy. This role involves providing engaging science instruction aligned with Arizona State Standards, utilizing school-adopted systems for curriculum and assessment, and fostering a positive and structured learning environment. The teacher will use data-driven instruction, integrate technology and lab equipment, encourage scientific inquiry, and manage classroom routines effectively. Responsibilities also include implementing student goals from 504 Plans and IEPs, participating in professional development, addressing student behavior and attendance, reflecting on teaching practices, supervising students, maintaining records, and participating in school events and parent conferences.

Requirements

Bachelor's Degree
Valid Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card
CPR/First Aid Certification
Minimum one (1) year teaching experience
Strong knowledge of middle school science content (6th-8th grade standards).
Ability to clearly explain scientific concepts and processes.
Skilled in analyzing assessment data to inform instruction.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Ability to read and interpret manuals, curriculum guides, and lab protocols.
Write in a coherent and professional manner.
Present information clearly to students, families, and colleagues.
Knowledge of basic office procedures.
Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Strong time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines.
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and instructional technology.

Responsibilities

Provide science instruction aligned to Arizona State Standards for middle school, covering topics such as life science, physical science, earth and space science, and engineering practices.
Prepare and deliver engaging, grade-level appropriate lessons that incorporate different learning styles, abilities, and interests.
Utilize school-adopted systems of practice for curriculum, instruction, and assessment including, but not limited to: Beyond Textbooks, Spalding (as applicable for cross-curricular support), data submission processes, and testing protocols.
Use data-driven instruction to monitor student understanding and adjust lessons to support mastery of scientific concepts.
Assess student progress toward learning targets and provide timely feedback to students, parents/guardians, and administration.
Integrate technology, lab equipment, and hands-on activities to enhance student engagement and understanding of scientific concepts.
Encourage scientific inquiry, problem-solving, and collaborative experimentation.
Establish classroom routines and procedures that support a structured, safe, and productive learning environment.
Effectively implement student goals outlined in 504 Plans and IEPs.
Participate in grade-level and school-wide professional learning activities focused on improving science instruction and student outcomes.
Document and proactively address student behavior and attendance issues.
Reflect continually on teaching practices to improve student learning.
Supervise students in accordance with state laws and school policies.
Maintain accurate and complete student records as required by the school and law.
Participate in school-wide events, meetings, and parent conferences.
Perform other duties as assigned.
