About The Position

North Carolina Cyber Academy is seeking a highly experienced Middle School Turnaround Principal. We are seeking an intrapreneurial, tech-savvy, and high-urgency leader to spearhead the turnaround of our virtual middle school. In a virtual charter setting, the principal must be more than an administrator; you must be an expert in digital instructional leadership, capable of driving rapid academic growth across a geographically dispersed student body. This role requires a leader who can diagnose systemic failures in virtual engagement and implement robust, data-backed solutions to ensure every student succeeds in an online environment.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Educational Leadership; valid State Administrative/Principal Certification.
  • Proven success in a leadership or lead-teacher role within a virtual or blended learning environment.
  • Documented history of leading rapid school improvement or managing significant organizational change.
  • Mastery of LMS platforms (e.g., Canvas, Schoology), data visualization tools, and synchronous communication tech (e.g., Zoom, Teams).

Nice To Haves

  • The ability to pivot strategies quickly based on real-time digital performance data.
  • High academic expectations coupled with strong remote empathy for students from diverse or disadvantaged backgrounds.
  • Committed to integrating media literacy and AI policy into the core academic mission.

Responsibilities

  • Drive "e-leadership" by conducting frequent virtual classroom observations and providing real-time, actionable feedback to teachers on online pedagogy and synchronous engagement.
  • Act as a "data hound," leveraging Learning Management System (LMS) analytics to monitor student login rates, participation, and interim assessment progress daily.
  • Lead aggressive initiatives to improve student persistence and attendance—the most critical challenge in virtual schooling.
  • Proactively build a "social presence" where students, staff, and families feel connected and supported despite the physical distance.
  • Develop a virtual coaching culture, providing remote professional development that addresses the specific stressors of online teaching to maintain a stable, high-performing staff.
  • Ensure all virtual operations meet strict charter authorizer metrics, including non-standard goals like extended graduation cohorts and mobile student tracking.
