About The Position

The Middle School Principal is responsible for providing innovative, collaborative, and forward-thinking leadership. The Principal directs all matters pertaining to implementation of the district’s approved instructional program at the school level, helps ensure efficient operation of the school’s physical plant, business, technology services, and helps oversee cocurricular and extracurricular programs. The Principal invites and coordinates proper involvement of faculty, parents, and community members in the planning and decision-making process.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree from an accredited institution
  • Certification from Wyoming Professional Teaching Standards Board as a Middle School Principal
  • Minimum of 5 years of successful experience as a certified teacher
  • Minimum of 2 years of successful experience as a principal or assistant principal and/or successful completion of a full-year and full-time administrative internship
  • Ability to use effective communication skills
  • Strong content and pedagogical knowledge
  • Knowledge of education law and regulations
  • Ability to use time effectively
  • Good organizational skills
  • Ability to maintain a positive relationship with other staff by collaborating and working cooperatively with them (including supervisors)
  • Knowledge of physiological, psychological, emotional, and educational behavioral development of children and/or adolescents
  • Ability to lead meetings
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Computer technology skills
  • Knowledge of curriculum, instruction, organizational patterns, school operations, and pupil services
  • Knowledge of and demonstrates success with students with disabilities and the provision of high-quality special education service and 504 accommodations

  • Vision (which may be corrected) to read small print; view a computer screen for prolonged periods.
  • Hearing (which may be corrected) to answer telephones and tolerate exposure to noisy conditions.
  • Speech to be understood in face-to-face communications; to speak with a level of proficiency and volume to be understood over a telephone.
  • Upper Body Mobility: use hands and fingers to feel, grasp, and manipulate small objects; manipulate fingers, twist and bend at the wrist and elbow; extend arms to reach outward and upward; use hands and arms to lift objects; turn, raise, and lower the head.
  • Strength: to lift, push, pull and/or carry objects which weigh as much as 35 or more pounds on a frequent basis.
  • Environmental Requirements: encounter constant work interruptions; work cooperatively with others; work independently; work indoors and outdoors.
  • Mental Requirements: read, write, understand, interpret, and apply information at a moderately complex level essential for successful job performance; math skills at a high school proficiency level; judgement and the ability to process information quickly; learn quickly and follow verbal procedures and standards; give verbal instruction; rank tasks in order of importance; copy, compare, compile, and coordinate information and records.

Responsibilities

  • Provides effective leadership in the total operation of the school and the alignment and implementation of the district’s strategic plan at the school level.
  • Establishes and promotes a culture of excellence, innovation, and positive change.
  • Effectively supervises the instructional performance of certified staff through frequent and ongoing observation.
  • Implements the district-approved curricular scope and sequence.
  • Administers systemic and effective methods of objectively monitoring student progress.
  • Ensures that teacher and student schedules are developed which optimally utilize available resources.
  • Is familiar with Professional Learning Communities and Multi-tiered Systems of Support.
  • Cultivates a positive, collaborative environment of excitement, energy, enthusiasm, and hope for students, parents, and staff.
  • Accepts responsibility for the achievement of all students.
  • Identifies and removes institutional barriers that could prevent students from equitably accessing educational opportunities.
  • Oversees all hiring, assigning, supervision, and evaluation of personnel.
  • Works in tandem with the Instructional Facilitator (IF) to provide instructional supports for all teachers.
  • Develops, advocates, and sustains an academically rigorous, positive, and safe school climate for all stakeholders.
  • Demonstrates professional standards and ethics, engages in continuous professional learning, and contributes to the profession.
  • Assures high-quality Tier 1 instruction is occurring in every classroom every day.
  • Has a thorough understanding of the IEP process, 504 process, and actively serves as the school’s LEA.
  • Assures the successful implementation and sustainability of an MTSS/PBIS system.
  • Communicates with the school community and provides timely information to staff and parents.
  • Provides equity in the classroom by ensuring equal opportunity for students regardless of race, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, background, and abilities.
  • Organizes the classroom to promote learning, student safety, and ensures classroom equipment functions in a safe manner.
  • Responds appropriately to student behavior in the total school environment by enforcing school rules in hallways, on school grounds, in other school areas away from the classroom, and on school-sponsored trips.
  • Participates in professional growth (such as professional organizations, coursework, workshops, and conferences) and other professional activities (such as school and/or District committees, taskforces, in-depth studies, or councils).
  • Follows the policies and procedures of the school and the District.
  • Demonstrates a sense of professional responsibility, such as demonstrating ethical behavior; providing accurate data and reports when needed; meeting deadlines; maintaining confidentiality; caring for the equipment and materials; and dressing appropriately and presenting a good role model.
