About The Position

The Middle School Physical Education (PE) Co-Teacher is responsible for co-planning and co-delivering engaging, developmentally appropriate physical education lessons to students in grades 5-6. The teacher will create a positive and inclusive learning environment that promotes physical fitness, teamwork, and a lifelong appreciation for physical activity.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Kinesiology, or a related field.
Valid middle level teaching certification required.
Strong knowledge of physical education principles and practices.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to motivate and inspire students.
Strong organizational and time-management skills.
Proficiency in using technology for teaching and assessment.
Ability to demonstrate physical activities and fitness exercises.
Capability to stand, walk, and participate in physical activities for extended periods.
Ability to lift and move equipment as necessary.

Nice To Haves

Valid Michigan middle level/secondary teaching certification in Physical Education preferred.
Previous experience teaching middle school students is preferred.

Responsibilities

Co-Develop and co-implement a comprehensive PE curriculum that aligns with state and national standards.
Co-Design and co-deliver dynamic and varied lessons that cater to diverse learning styles and physical abilities.
Incorporate a variety of physical activities, including team sports, individual exercises, and fitness routines.
Co-establish and maintain a safe and respectful classroom environment.
Co-manage student behavior effectively, promoting positive interactions and resolving conflicts as needed.
Ensure students adhere to safety rules and proper use of equipment.
Assess students’ physical abilities, skills, and progress through formal and informal methods.
Provide constructive feedback to students to encourage improvement and development.
Maintain accurate records of student performance and report progress to parents and guardians.
Work collaboratively with colleagues, including other PE teachers, classroom teachers, and school staff.
Communicate effectively with parents, providing updates on student progress and addressing any concerns.
Participate in staff meetings, professional development opportunities, and school events.
Stay current with best practices in physical education through continuous professional development.
Reflect on teaching practices and seek feedback for continuous improvement.
Support school-wide physical activity initiatives and health programs.
