About The Position

Great Lakes Academy is hiring a full time Middle School Math/Science Teacher to join the team. Must have Michigan Teacher Certification and endorsements. Great Lakes Academy is a K - 8th grade public charter school located in Pontiac. The academy has been serving the community for more than 20 years. The Middle School Math/Science Teacher is responsible for providing engaging, standards-aligned instruction in mathematics and science to middle school students. This position plans and delivers lessons that support academic growth, critical thinking, problem-solving, and scientific inquiry while creating a positive and structured classroom environment. The teacher monitors student progress, differentiates instruction to meet diverse learning needs, and collaborates with school staff and families to support student success.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Science, Education, or a related field required.
  • Valid Michigan Secondary Teaching Certificate with appropriate Mathematics and Science endorsement required.
  • Strong knowledge of mathematics and science curriculum and instructional practices.
  • Strong classroom management and student engagement skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with educational technology and digital learning tools.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with students, families, colleagues, and school leadership.
  • Commitment to supporting student achievement and creating a positive learning environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous middle school teaching experience is preferred.
  • Experience with differentiated instruction and data-driven instruction preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging mathematics and science instruction aligned with Michigan academic standards.
  • Develop and implement lesson plans, assessments, and instructional activities appropriate for middle school students.
  • Use a variety of instructional strategies to support different learning styles and abilities.
  • Establish and maintain clear classroom expectations, routines, and procedures.
  • Create a safe, inclusive, and positive learning environment.
  • Assess student learning and monitor academic progress.
  • Use student data to adjust instruction and provide appropriate interventions or enrichment.
  • Provide additional academic support to students as needed.
  • Incorporate hands-on activities, technology, problem-solving, and inquiry-based learning into instruction.
  • Maintain accurate attendance, grades, student records, and other required documentation.
  • Communicate regularly with students, families, and school staff regarding student progress and needs.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to support curriculum development and student achievement.
  • Participate in staff meetings, professional development, parent conferences, and other school activities.
  • Follow school policies, procedures, and safety requirements.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student and school information.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
