Responsibilities

  • Serve as a lead or co-lead in a classroom, which may include leading independently, co-teaching, coverage, or stepping into a lead role later in the year.
  • Ensure all children are affirmed, valued, and challenged every day.
  • Foster a positive and safe learning environment.
  • Prepare and internalize rigorous and engaging unit and daily lessons, utilizing provided curricula/resources and intellectual preparation tools.
  • Create and internalize academically aligned lesson plans, unit plans, rubrics, and assessments (when applicable).
  • Set specific, ambitious growth goals with all students and leverage necessary resources to ensure they are met.
  • Innovate on best practices to execute engaging, differentiated instruction at a rigorous level for all students.
  • Implement aligned school-wide or grade-level student culture systems and proactive classroom management strategies.
  • Regularly analyze student work and academic data to modify lessons, refine curricula, and inform instructional practice.
  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date student grades/records and initiate strong communication with students and families regarding progress.
  • Obtain required MTEL and SEI endorsements with financial support from KIPP MA within the first year of employment, including free study support.
  • Participate in school-wide and individual professional development, including summer pre-service training and weekly sessions during the academic year.
  • Take ownership of professional craft development by seeking and implementing feedback from coaches and collaborating with teammates.
  • Perform assigned duties such as classroom coverage, bus, lunch, transition, and dismissal duties.
  • Develop strong relationships with families through participation in school events and consistent communication.
  • Offer support and receive constructive feedback from colleagues to foster a professional working atmosphere.
  • Collaborate with grade level and content teams to address common challenges and implement grade-wide systems, sharing responsibility for all students.
  • Maintain dependable attendance according to the school calendar and communicate proactively about attendance barriers.
  • Embody KIPP MA’s Code of Conduct (integrity, humanity, self-awareness, personal responsibility, productive engagement).
  • Participate and engage in regional professional development and community events.
  • Demonstrate ability to collect and interpret data, evaluate, reason, define problems, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, and make timely judgments.
  • Utilize self-awareness, flexibility, and emotional intelligence to navigate diverse student needs.
  • Apply interpersonal and self-management skills to support student behavior and emotional needs, ensuring a safe and inclusive environment, and building relationships and managing conflict.
  • Utilize effective communication skills for assigned duties and meaningful exchange of information with students, staff, families, and others.
  • Exhibit physical mobility for executing duties, which may include kneeling, walking, pushing/pulling, squatting, twisting, turning, bending, stooping, and reaching overhead.
  • Possess physical strength sufficient to periodically lift and/or carry 20 pounds of materials or supplies and to physically restrain a student in an emergency.
  • Demonstrate manual dexterity for repetitive hand/wrist/arm motions and operating computer and office equipment.
  • Engage in other assigned duties to promote a positive and calm learning environment and culture.
