About The Position

The Middle School Language Arts Teacher teaches students in grades six through eight reading, writing, grammar, vocabulary, literature, and critical communication skills. The teacher designs and maintains a structured, engaging learning environment suited to middle school students and collaborates with grade-level and cross-functional teacher teams to co-plan instruction, align behavioral expectations, and implement classroom management strategies.

The position supports the mission of Sacred Heart Catholic School and the ministry of the local Pastor. The teacher is expected to make known the Catholic Church’s teachings through the position’s ministry activities and to serve as a personal witness to the Catholic faith in accordance with the doctrines and moral teachings of the Roman Catholic Church.

The position is open for January–May 2027 and has a start date of January 4, 2027. It reports to the Principal.

Requirements

• Catholic in good standing, with the ability to be a spiritual leader of Sacred Heart School.
• Willingness and ability to effectively make known the Catholic Church’s teachings through the ministry activities expected of the position.
• Willingness and ability to live one’s professional and personal life in accordance with the doctrines and moral teachings of the Roman Catholic Church, including those embodied in the Catechism of the Catholic Church.
• Strong interpersonal and verbal skills.
• Self-starter with high energy and flexibility.
• Strong planning and organizational skills.
• Strength in problem solving and decision making.
• Child-friendly personality and patience with middle-level learners.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality.

Nice To Haves

• Bachelor’s degree in middle-level instruction with an emphasis in Language Arts, or equivalent, preferred.

Responsibilities

• Promote the mission of Sacred Heart Catholic School.
• Plan and execute daily and weekly lessons and activities aligned with standards.
• Differentiate lessons and materials to support all students.
• Prepare students for assessments.
• Maintain up-to-date grading records for student work.
• Evaluate student progress, provide constructive feedback, and track data.
• Maintain student attendance and grades for cumulative records.
• Manage and organize a safe learning environment appropriate for middle school students.
• Use positive, preventative discipline strategies, including redirection, positive limits, clear expectations, encouragement and praise, choices, and opportunities for students to problem solve.
• Supervise and interact with children during all school activities.
• Conduct conferences twice a year and maintain effective, regular communication with parents.
• Maintain privacy and confidentiality at all times.
• Perform various duties as assigned.
• Meet the expectations of the administration and principal.
• Communicate well with staff, students, and parents; interact professionally with students and staff.
• Support team effort and the mission of Sacred Heart School.
