About The Position

The Avery Coonley School is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Middle School Girls’ Basketball Coach for its interscholastic athletics program. The season runs from early January to early March. Practices and games are held Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays, with the possibility of one Wednesday during playoff week. The Athletic Department is committed to providing a high-quality experience in which every athlete is coached in a positive and nurturing way, has fun at practices and games, feels like an important part of the team, and learns life lessons that have value beyond the playing field. Coaches work collaboratively to design and implement engaging, challenging, and fun practices. The coaching and game-management philosophy centers on the development of each athlete rather than a primary focus on winning. Coaches are expected to create an environment where athletes can develop basketball skills, build confidence, learn to work with others, and enjoy competing. Coaches must also honor the game by demonstrating respect for rules, officials, opponents, teammates, and spectators, and by modeling sportsmanship and character.

• Commitment to creating a positive, inclusive, and development-focused experience for all athletes

Nice To Haves

• High school or college basketball playing experience
• Previous basketball coaching experience
• Coaching certification or license at any level
