About The Position

Uwharrie Charter Academy (UCA) is a public K–12 charter school committed to preparing students for success through engaging, real-world learning experiences. Built upon the principles of Relationships, Rigor, and Relevance, our STEAM-focused, project-based instructional model encourages students to become critical thinkers, effective communicators, and lifelong learners. We are seeking an enthusiastic, student-centered Middle School English Language Arts Teacher who is passionate about literacy, fosters a love of reading and writing, and creates an engaging classroom where every student is challenged to grow academically and personally.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Education.
  • Hold or be eligible for a North Carolina Professional Educator's License with appropriate middle grades English Language Arts licensure.
  • Strong understanding of middle school literacy instruction, writing development, and differentiated instruction.
  • Excellent classroom management skills with the ability to build positive relationships with adolescents.
  • Exceptional written, verbal, organizational, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
  • Successful completion of a criminal background check and pre-employment drug screening.

Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver engaging, standards-aligned English Language Arts instruction that promotes critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and effective communication.
  • Develop meaningful lessons centered around authentic learning experiences, project-based learning, and real-world applications.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse academic, social, and emotional needs of all learners.
  • Foster a classroom culture that encourages curiosity, discussion, inquiry, and a lifelong appreciation for literature and writing.
  • Utilize a variety of instructional strategies, technology, and literacy resources to maximize student engagement and achievement.
  • Develop daily and long-range lesson plans aligned to the North Carolina Standard Course of Study.
  • Collaborate with colleagues in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) to analyze student data, share best practices, and continuously improve instruction.
  • Build strong partnerships with families to support student success through consistent communication and collaboration.
  • Establish and maintain a structured, respectful, and positive learning environment built on high expectations and meaningful relationships.
  • Demonstrate strong classroom management skills that maximize instructional time and promote student responsibility.
  • Create an organized, welcoming classroom that supports student learning and reflects current instructional goals.
  • Effectively supervise students during instructional and non-instructional activities while maintaining a safe learning environment.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with teacher assistants, support staff, volunteers, and parents when appropriate.
  • Use formative, summative, and state-required assessments to monitor student progress and guide instructional decisions.
  • Maintain accurate academic records and provide timely feedback to students and families.
  • Analyze assessment data to identify student strengths and areas for growth while implementing targeted interventions.
  • Communicate student progress clearly and consistently with parents, guardians, and school staff.
  • Serve as an active member of the UCA Professional Learning Community.
  • Collaborate positively with administrators, teachers, support staff, and families.
  • Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, committees, and school improvement initiatives.
  • Sponsor student organizations or extracurricular activities as assigned.
  • Attend school events and functions that support the UCA community.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, flexibility, and a commitment to continuous improvement.
