About The Position

Freire Schools is a network of four charter schools across Philadelphia and Delaware with a mission to prepare students from historically underserved communities for success in college and beyond. The Middle School Dean of Students will work at Freire Charter Middle School in Center City Philadelphia, serving students in grades 5–8. This role involves fostering a positive school culture, maintaining safety and order, building relationships with students, facilitating restorative conversations, and communicating with staff and parents regarding student behavior. The ideal candidate believes in the potential of all students and models values of equity, love, critical thinking, and diversity.

Requirements

At least 3 years of previous successful experience working with diverse student populations, teaching experience preferred.
Positive attitude, sense of humor, and willingness to do whatever it takes to get a job done.
Ability to work well individually and as part of a team.
Excellent organizational, verbal, and written communication skills, and the ability to engage students, parents, colleagues, and community members in supporting youth development.

Responsibilities

Work with school leadership and culture team to foster a positive school culture that supports the academic and social-emotional success of each student.
Maintain safety and order and build relationships with students by being accessible and visible in hallways, classrooms, arrival/dismissal, lunch periods, and after school programs.
Facilitate restorative conversations between members of the school community and de-escalate students crisis situations.
Openly and regularly communicate with staff and parents/guardians regarding student behavior.
Maintain student databases with climate/discipline information.
