About The Position

Chadwick School seeks an enthusiastic Middle School Athletics Coach to lead and mentor young student-athletes in fundamental skill development, teamwork, sportsmanship, and character building. The ideal candidate understands the unique developmental, emotional, and physical needs of middle school students (grades 6–8). The Middle School Coach fosters an inclusive, high-energy environment where participation, fundamental growth, effort, and enjoyment of the sport are prioritized alongside competitive spirit.

Requirements

Excellent verbal and organizational skills with an ability to communicate effectively with middle school students and parents.
Solid understanding of sport-specific fundamental drills, middle school league rules, and athlete safety protocols.
Student-centered, patient, encouraging, and collaborative leadership style.
Complete middle school CPR/First Aid certification.

Nice To Haves

Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Experience coaching or working with middle school youth (ages 11–14) or youth sports leagues preferred.
High school or collegiate playing experience in the specific sport preferred.

Responsibilities

Plan and conduct age-appropriate practices that focus on fundamental mechanics, core sport tactics, rules, and athletic conditioning tailored to middle school skill levels.
Model and teach Chadwick’s core values of respect, responsibility, honesty, fairness, and compassion. Promote dynamic teamwork, balanced play, and constructive feedback.
Manage game situations, ensure fair playing time opportunities aligned with Middle School Athletics guidelines, track stats, and adjust strategies dynamically.
Provide direct supervision of middle school student-athletes at all times during practices, games, locker room prep, campus transitions, and team travel.
Coordinate with Upper School Head Coaches to align foundational technical skills, terminology, and tactical principles for smooth athletic progression into high school sports.
Maintain prompt, clear, and professional communication with middle school parents, student-athletes, and the Athletic Department.
Assist in setting up facilities, maintaining sport-specific gear, managing team uniforms, and supervising proper cleanup post-practice/game.
Proactively participate in discussions and practices around identity, social justice, and inclusive community building within middle school athletics.
Attend required coaching meetings, complete middle school CPR/First Aid certification, and follow all guidelines in the Employee & Athletic Handbooks.
Perform other duties as assigned.
